Yesterday was my first visit to Brunty and what a marvellous event it was. I spent most of my time in admiration of the splendid work done by the Lightning Preservation Group. What a splendid bunch. Yesterday was also my first opportunity to try out my DSLR properly and here are some of my efforts.

Is there any news on the on going restoration of XP701:rolleyes:
regards Matt
Hello Matt,
I’m sorry to say that there are no plans to restore what is left of XP701. The best I can do is continue with my compilation of her history and photos which I have to say is coming along very nicely. The ‘Lightning’ community has been very helpful and generates a steady trickle of pleasing information and photos. A number of pilots have been rummaging through their log books photo albums for me with good results.
Hello Deskpilot,
I’m afraid that I don’t know anything about the radar. I did try to open XP701’s badly discoloured cockpit canopy but it was seized solid.
Hello Everyone,
I am delighted with the very helpful responses posted, thank you very much. I haven’t done this sort of thing before and it could indeed turn into quite a long term project! I will follow up all of the leads suggested but in the meantime, in response to ‘Viscount’, I do not have any documents at all, nor does the museum. How would I go about securing access to information such as entries from the ‘file card’ operational history?
Don’t be afraid to offer as many corrections as you like as much of the information I have so far is taken from the Internet and unverified. One man’s pedantry is another man’s accuracy!
Thanks again and a Happy New Year to all.
For the want of something better to do, I just GoogledEarthed Horn Lane. No Jaguars there as far as I can see. Weren’t looking a a car were you:diablo:
Funny you should say that as just a few miles from my home there is a small collection of Jaguars parked in a field.;)
I often travel along a lane near Woodmancote in Sussex and through the trees I can make out what looks like a Jaguar parked on a farm. Having done some snooping via Google Maps I wonder if it belongs to a company called Hayward and Green. Maybe they will take an offer?
Good luck and let us know how you get on.
Hello Simon,
I really like the HDR effect and it is something I fancy trying. What camera equipment did you use?
Lightning F3 XP701
Hello there,
I have recently joined the Robertsbridge Aviation Society and I have set up their first, very simple (and interim) web site as a temporary measure until a more professional one is available. I was toying with the idea of creating a web page about XP701 to include its history and as many photos as possible. Has anyone already made a start on something similar? Might anyone be prepared to allow the publication on line of any photos please?
Thanks in anticipation.
David Harvey – Heathfield, East Sussex.
