Move over and Let the Big Dogs Eat.

The EA-18G is equipped with the ALQ-99 radar jamming pod and a a APG-79 phased array (AESA) radar, which also has some jamming capability (with the right software) as well as the ability to fry electronics. It was suggested that the EA-18G might have done this to some Libyan armored vehicles.

Watched YouTube footage link on Navy/mil site and saw Sea Stallions/MH-53 Pavelow’s and V-22 Osprey’s launched and being readied. Aren’t these principally designed to insert troops? The Harrier footage was shown on CNN in past 30 minutes and gleaned from same site.

My Guess is that the Harriers will need a Land Base within Theater somewhere in the desert don’t know if that technically violates NO TROOPS ON THE GROUND but this is SOP (Standard Operating Procedure).

I’m sure the Target List has just increased.

News that Qatar air assets are being readied for deployment gives one pause that IFF will become paramount with so many different nations participating. Understand Italy has now joined the coalition. Charles de Gaulle should be on station within 24 hours.

With the participation of B-2’s, F/A 18 (unknown variants), mudfigters (Marine Harriers) and EA-18-G Growlers, it seems the American partcipation is hardly just a support role. There are reports of strikes against Gadaffi’s armoured columns outside Benghazi and if that starts resembling the notorious “Highway of Death” look for some defections from the UN mandate. The Arab League is already making noise about the coalition exceeding their mandate. Seems these people thought this would simply be a sanitized airshow over Libya.

What looms is Gadaffi hunkering down in Tripoli with the country split and rebels controlling the east and possibly territory inbetween. Any attempts to root out mad Mohammar would have to be on the ground as collaterial damage to civilians would be far too risky.

Thus a long protracted campaign is in the offing unless Gadaffi’s cadres start defecting or abandoning their posts.

Actually, due to CFTs, the range increases, even with more powerfull engines. The range w/o EFTs is >700Nmiles, wich is impressive. http://i052.radikal.ru/1101/e4/6879902b7cbb.jpg

    Super Hornet Stealth weapons Pod

Other unique features include improvements in the Hornet’s stealth and range a stealthy conformal fuel tank and a conformal enclosed weapons pod, for example. The weapons pod can carry a combination of AIM-120 air-to-air missiles and air-to-ground bombs, with each Super Hornet capable of carrying three pods. The conformal fuel tank also reduces drag.

    F-35 Luneburg lens radar reflector

The Luneberg lens is a passive radar augmentation device used to increase the radar reflectivity of a target without the use of additional energy The lens reflector is a sphere in shape, usually composed of concentric dielectric shells. By the proper selection of dielectric constants for each shell, radar energy incident on one of the faces of the lens is focused at a point on the rear surface of the lens. The rear conductive surface reflects radar energy back to the source.

A radar reflector can be made from a Luneburg lens by metallizing parts of its surface. Radiation from a distant radar transmitter is focussed onto the underside of the metallization on the opposite side of the lens; here it is reflected, and focussed back onto the radar station. A difficulty with this scheme is that metallized regions block the entry or exit of radiation on that part of the lens, but the non-metallized regions result in a blind-spot on the opposite side.

Ongoing Iran War Preparations? Arabian Sea: Center Of West’s 21st Century War

The monumental expansion of arms sales and the buildup of naval and air power in the Arabian Sea region are unprecedented. They are also alarming to the highest degree.

The Charles de Gaulle, flagship of the French navy, the country’s only aircraft carrier and the sole non-American nuclear carrier, will soon join its two U.S. counterparts.
