RE: Safety statistics and an odd fact
Agree with your comment 100% PhilB that stats can be massaged to read almost anything… but as the saying goes… you cant let the facts get in the way of a good story (or a lively and emotional forum discussion!) The media know this very well too. 😉
Either way, I am re-organising my financial position to reserve 2 seats on a Concorde flight as soon as poss. Especially now they are making additional exotic stops on route…
RE: australian aviation
My view of Aus airlines is positive. I believe their service levels to pax are among the highest in the world. The aircraft are modern, the seats have entertainment and the food is quite acceptable – crew are customer orientated. I remember being so shocked at the lousy domestic service when I first flew in the US and shocked again in Europe when I had the chance to travel J in 6 abreast in an MD83!
As for competition well it will make the consumer dollar stretch further, hopefully without a customer service compromise. Impulse may be ‘doing it tough’ as their load levels are averaging on 45% now and they are re-thinking their ticket distribution strategy to now embrace travel agents in a more traditional way. The idea is to grow the entire market and not just have canibalisation between the carriers. The launch of Spirit also throws a little more fat onto the fire. Attracting business pax away from the One World & Star ALliance frequent flyer programmes will be a challenge for the newbies. I think.
🙂
RE: Worlds longest route??
I agree with Matthew. There are already several routes that take 13 and 14 hours and if I could fly Delhi/Chicago nonstop then I would. As long as the aircraft has inflight entertainment, a laptop socket and an extra inch of seat pitch then OK. Maybe the airline will offer a book voucher with every boarding pass… and install those self-clean lavs! Johno
RE: Finnair & Scandinavian Airlines
I have flown both and had equally BAD service on each. My cabin crew experiences with SAS have been more negative than with AY. I will most likely choose according to which of my frequent flyer programmes needs more points at the time! If you are a Finn, then fly your flag and keep your friends in a job! kiitos Johno
RE: The battle of the bulging handluggage
I just typed a long reply but lost it somehow… here’s my synopsis. Bins should not be increased in size as it only encourages more luggage. The 777 has bins to sleep in. BAd news.
Someone has regulated the iron maiden so that she appears all over the world however it is the implementation that is inconsistent. I dont mind checking my wheely bin when I know it contains 3 litres of scotch and a kilo of brie along with my regular stuff. Lifting that up and down from the bins after a few inflight bevvies is too much to handle. Many airlines in Asia (also BA these days) are getting tough on this and will take bags off you at the gate if it looks too big or too heavy. This has my support as a passenger who sits in the back
