The smartest thing they did with the F-16 was to have it use the same engine as the F-15.
Of course they couldn’t do that with the F-35, i.e. use the F119, because ROFLSTOVL.
Ah, but imagine if they had: with the most expensive component remaining in production regardless, F-22 production could well have continued also.
Not for the first time, China and other prospective OPFOR are the beneficiaries of American short-sightedness.
i dont think so, we were vaccinated by first world war…
Fading memories of the wars is one of the major reasons the European project has stalled in recent times.
Either would probably work. I do think the weak and ineffectual governance experienced throughout the western world in the 21st century will generate its natural corrective in the end, and France is its obvious birthplace.
The most effective route to a United Europe would be the rise of another Napoleon in France.
The real question is, should Indian officials let Russia continue being a part of the FGFA program?
teehee
Any modern aircraft is going to have the required datalink capability.
Qualities of the Su-30 that enhance its performance in the ‘spotter’ role are its large & powerful radar, long endurance, and second seat. F-15E derivatives and MiG-31BM share these qualities.
Cheek arrays and/or a steerable AESA like on Gripen E would enhance the performance of aircraft in this role even further. A Su-34 variant could potentially offer the ultimate expression of this concept, but I doubt it’s worth pursing.
Umm, really? Surely we can lampoon stupid statements by certain officials without insulting an entire country. 🙁
Of course ignore quotes from high level Indian official as they are mere mortals against forum keyboard generals and ninjas
People rubbish Russian Deputy Prime Minister Rogozin when he says weird stuff that doesn’t match up with reality too.
Of course there is a difference between the aircraft and the program for India, but when an article makes multiple basic errors about the former, it makes it difficult to take its claims about the latter any more seriously.
@latenlazy: thanks for rumours re: J-15/-16 AESA.
the Z-10 looks more like a European helicopter than a Russian one.
Tiny, sleek, versus big, heavy, brutish
This is true. Z-10 looks good, but Eurocopter Tiger looks better, especially once the mast-mounted radar is added to the Z-10. Ruins the proportions IMO, even as it improved the Apache’s.
Russian helicopters have a different kind of aesthetic appeal, more utilitarian/rugged.
smells like a political battle to me
Yep. Continued attempts to extend SH production on the one hand, big UCAV plans on the other .. it’s almost as if they don’t like F-35 very much. /snicker
If Gripen E was an American project then everyone would be buying it and it would be heresy to question the wisdom of doing so. The notion of buying Sweden’s F-35 would be laughed out the door. It really is that simple.
If J-10B has AESA, what about upcoming J-15 and -16? JH-7B?
That is what you get when Kamov designs it.
LOL, the same Kamov who designed the Ka-27, probably the ugliest helicopter flying today?
Granted the Ka-60/62 looks pretty nice…
Are these new Kh-32 missiles? Is there concrete infos on how extensive the upgrades are compared to Kh-22?
I’ve always thought of JH-7 as a strike-oriented Phantom. Obviously the main basis for the comparison is the Spey/WS-9 engines shared with the British Phantoms, but there are other similarities too: size, intake design + forward fuselage, corresponding ‘generations’.
i know it´s not directly military related, but china is developing a new amphibian airplane called Jiaolong-600,with a weight of 48 tons it´s heavier then the japanese US-2
Cool — I like flying boats. :eagerness: Modern airframe design compared to 1960s US-2 also.
Some great footage there, thanks! And 1080p too — a pleasure to show on the big screen! :eagerness:
