Take a good long look at that video again PilotDKH, you “should” see that the projectile fired has no fins so that eliminates it as a guided weapon,it’s more likely an artillery rocket such as a “Katushya” being fired that’s not connected to the C-130’s crash.

But all this has been said before,so you’ve either not been reading this thread before posting or it’s not “an X-files enough” explanation for you to be satisfied.

This war that rages between the US led coalition and the insurgents isn’t just being fought on the battlefields of the towns, cities and deserts of Iraq,it’s being fought increasingly on the news networks such as the BBC or CNN and on the TV screens of millions worldwide, and you’re kind of wild speculation and conspiracy theorist nonsense just spurs the “media war” on costing yet more lives and causing more suffering to both the coalition and the innocent Iraqi’s caught between the two deeply entrenched sides.

If all they want is the ability to launch AIM-9’s why don’t they just buy the F-5E Tiger’s they’ve leased from Switzerland and top them up with a few more ex-Swiss Air Force Tiger’s and operate a force of say 36 aircraft for a fraction of what the Eurofighter’s would cost them?

    Lunacy,sheer lunacy

“Britains claim is based on international law and the wishes of the population”

Wow, so if the entire south american population’s wishes are to take back the Falklands, can we claim the same thing?

    Ignorance is truely bliss.

The fundamental flaw in your statement is the fact that the Falkland’s population would have to consent to a change in their goverment, and not to just have South America’s population impose their will on the Falklands.

That’s Self determination, what you’re proposing is just a plain and simple hostile conquest. It would be like the UK lobbing Trident missiles at Brazil and Argentina just because the goverment decided to show them whose boss and the population happened to like the idea at the time, absurd

That’s funny, according to this Russia’s state debt was a mere $143 Billion on October 1st 2004, I kind of find it impossible for that to have been cleared by February 8 2005

Oh,and here’s the link Click here

    Cheers. 😀

I’d agree with King Zultar on this one, I just don’t think Argentina can win it in this present day and age, or the near future.

I’d have to add though that the F-3’s will soon be recieving ASRAAM and AMRAAM capability as well, making the air superiority task an even harder one for the Argentines. Plus I’d imagine that some sort of contingency exists to rapidly reinforce the four Tornado’s if there’s intel to suggest a gathering conflict,or when hostilities begin

One point of interest though, can the Tomahawk and Storm Shadow cruise missiles be targeted against ships in there current versions? Or would that require an upgrade?

    Cheers 😀

Modern aircraft, equipped as they are with radar,FLIR and night vision devices wouldn’t have any problem spotting a ship at sea no matter what colour you painted it.

However,I think it’s a clever ploy by the Commies to make the Capitalists with too much time on their hands fight about the issue on an aviation forum

“weather related” my ass. Most likely the resistance shot it down, but as usual when shoot downs are denied, its blamed on the “weather”.How could it be sand bringing it down? All UK & USA helicopters are fitted with sand filters for desert operations. They have to be,to even consider flying in a desert.
Makes no sense.Especially the TV news coverage of it.Anyone else notice how they say a “US Marines CH-53 Sea Stallion” crashed, yet the TV news show pictures of a grey CH-46 Sea Knight? Weird huh?

About the TV pictures, when covering a crash such as this the likes of CNN are providing coverage for the masses, who aren’t into aviation and the military as much as we are,so they won’t know what a CH-53 looks like for the large part and hence they’ll show any old crap they have to hand in the footage archieves for US military helicopters.

And about the crash itself, if it’s it’s weather related as they say,it’s more than likely going to be a brown out incident, common in the desert when a helicopter’s downwash throw’s up tons of sand and dust from the surface below which then shrouds the chopper in a thick wall of dust, the crew becomes disoreintated and…………booom! Game over for all on board.

And besides, the US has admitted to losing enough helo’s to the insurgency in Iraq before now,why cover this one up?

Yeah, pretty much what I thought, seemed like a load of sensationalist nonsense to me this UFO “fad”,I’d bet most of the people who claim to have seen “Alien space craft” etc. are:

    A.Mistaken
    B.Attention Seekers
    C.Easily influenced

I remember reading about that Iranian incident in “Above Top Secret”,apparently an object was sighted over one of the cities and pretty much caused mass hysteria amongst the populace,so in response the Iranian AF scrambled an F-4 Phantom to intercept it. However,as the Phantom closed in and locked the object up to engage it all the electrical systems failed, forcing the F-4 to break off it’s attack and return to base where it made an emergency landing.

Sounds slightly fanciful to me as there were no sources quoted for the report such as Air Force officers or any other officials,so it could well be made up,or some sort of “Urban legend”

    Cheers
