I loathe my job at the minute, although I think it’s more appropriate to say words fail me as I try to express my disdain, outright hatred and distaste for my job. I currently work customer services/sales order processing for an office furniture company, and quite frankly how they’re still in business is quite the enigma.

To say disorganized is an understatement, bungling and incompetent are less than half way there and damn-right frustrating comes nowhere near the mark. I’ve only been there 4 months and I’ve had it up to the hilt with the place already, although I do have an interview lined up with a local bodyshop that’ll hopefully bail me out of there before the frustration and despair the place makes me feel manifests itself into physical violence.

I’m suprised the RAF doesn’t have a solid BAM scheme to prevent such incidents in the first place . It may be just a hawk this time but what if it was a Typhoon in the future?

Buddy, this took place at the Nato Flight Traning Couse in Moose Jaw, Canada, the base is run by the RCAF.

See? This is what i can’t do. Unlike some people, i’m into NEW things (read:designs). And while you can talk blue in the face about how its systems and subsytems are all brand new, it’s still a JetRanger. And while i am happy that there will be a new ARH, i just can’t hide the disappointment that it’s going to be one of the most common looking helicopters out there. Wait, THE most common looking copter out there.

And no, i don’t see how the capabilities of the E/F models of F-16 are that much more expansive. It’s still a 30 year old piece of crap to me. Besides, it’s not ours to use so what do i care? Don’t get me started on the F-16….

Never heard of “If it ain’t broke don’t fix it”? Or How about KISS (Keep It Simple Stupid)? Or “Function over Form” ?

Don’t work for our MoD do you? 😀

Crikey, how unfortunate and all because of a bird. 🙁

I know, but people often seem to think that a jet engine should be able to swallow a bird whole and keep going,it just doesn’t seem to enter their head that a 1-2lb bird striking the turbine blades spinning at several thousand rpm could impart so much energy.

The worst case of bird strike I can think of (in military terms anyway)was the loss a USAF E-3A at Elmendorf,Alaska a few years back,it swallowed something like 40 Canadian Geese, each weighing a few pounds between the two port side engines. It went down in a forest clearing a few miles from the runway taking the lives of the 36 crew on board, tragic 🙁

According to the site they initiated ejection too late, however the student made it out safe and the instructor was seriously injured as his canopy didn’t have enough time to fully deploy

Does anybody know why none of the production Tyhoons appear to have the Infra Red Search and Track system fitted? Hasn’t it be fully developed or is it a case of no money. Same goes for the much vaunted new Helmet for the aircrew. All the pics I have seen of RAF Typhoons the Pilot appears to be wearing a stnadard Helmet?

AFAIK the RAF are actually purchasing a helmet system called Striker that’s being bought from Israeli firm Elbit (might be wrong about the manufacturer though), these’ll replace the standard helmets once the Typhoons actually start to reach their operational units.

    Cheers

An F-15E was lost but not near Baghdad, I think it was somewhere up north around Kirkuk. I can’t remember whether or not the investigation had deemed it to have either flown under contol into terrain during a sandstorm due to the pilot loosing situational awareness or if it was hit by triple A at low level, either way the crew unfortunately went down with the aircraft 🙁

Have a look here Clicky , it’s a link to a report on the results of the Iraqi Freedom air campaign.

I think you’re refering to an alleged friendly fire incident. As I recall a US Army Patriot battery accidentally engaged a US Navy F/A-18 on a close air support sortie for the US Marines somewhere over the desert around Nasariyah.

I’ll see if I can find you some details, although I could just be wrong

    As I recall,

An article in the latest issue of Air Forces Monthly states that the Algerian Air Force has rejected the MiG-29SMT citing it’s short range, poor reliability and the offer of weapons technology that they feel has already been surpassed in the west. The article also mentions that they’ve also apparently dismissed the head of the air force as well due to his fixation with the MiG-29

    Cheers. 😀

One thought to bear in mind when trying to compare the display routines you’ve seen from the SU-27/30 Flanker series against those of the F/A-22 Raptor, the Russians are actively and aggressively trying to market their aircraft in the hope of gaining more export orders, whereas Lockheed Martin and the USAF have probably come to the conclusion that their aircraft is never likely to see foreign service due to it’s phenomenal unit cost, plus the fact that it’s packed full of highly classified technology that the governement would only allow close allies to posess, such as the UK,Israel and perhaps Japan, and even then, those selct few probably can’t afford them

    Cheers. 😀
