well, I fly the Classic, and I have to say I would`nt fancy doing this type of flying in it! Granted, it would be empty, stripped, no packs, many systems removed/ not req. but still, hand flying the aircraft down low, on a blustery day is extremely fatigueing for any length of time, as well to be effective it would have to be flown at min flaps 10 to get back to a speed to be effective.
The VREF of an empty 200 is around 121 with flaps 30, min control, ( shaded area) is 118 so this is as slow as it can get anyway. The standard dump rate with all pumps, (6) going is 5000 per min, obviously they would drastically increase that with a center tank dump system, but the logistics of such a system are beyond me!
Another point is visibility, the nose drop from flap 25 to 30 is quite pronounced, but at 10 not great, so 200 feet above trees at 10 would not be comfortable.
I imagine poling the thing around down low in the turb and mountains would be apsolutely terrifying!
I guess they could do it, but I sure won`t be first in line to give it a go! 😉

This is an interesting thread, as it is not often images of a restored but subsequently destroyed Spitfire are available, and while very sad to see, if any loss of life was involved, the airframe remains are in one case substantial, and the other essentially nonexistent.
So, the question to those well versed in the structures:
I image that TE213 would represent from what I can see in the pic a viable rebuild project, and would thus be worth a considerable amount, however TE566 ( always one of my favorites) is by my guess destroyed, I cannot imagine what can be salvaged from that, perhaps the odd small wing component, but thats about it, so does this become an identity only? and if so what is the value of the remains? in fact does what is left qualify as an identity?

I would certainly agree with you there! but this is also NOT the museum I was at.
Wish I had found that one though, I shall search.
I was at the Satria Mandala museum, just around the corner from the Mulia hotel.
a museum on a much smaller scale,
    List includes:
    DC3
    Fairey Gannet
    Piper L4
    P51
    T-6
    B25
and a Mig 21 out front.
But my original point, these are fantasic, valuable airframes, but the climate here is not exacly condusive to outside display, what with the afternoon downpours and oppresive humidity. I realise they have to work with what they have, but sad to say, the aircraft will not live forever in these conditions.
But thankyou for your information, I will certainly seek out the other display if possible.

    wow, you guys are good!
I had no idea there were so many on display over here. I am referring to the one in the Mandala museum, on outdoor display, under a semi covered area.
But out of interest, where are the others located? I seem to be having no luck finding any sort of heritage avaition here, other than the sparse offerings in this museum, any suggestions around the Jakarta area?
    cheers.
