The Missile in the Below picture is used a lot of times for depicting SA-5.
I have the old 1978 edition of Soviet war machine and it shows the SA-5 as the missile in the bottom picture. It is also written that it has ABM applications and may be a nuclear warhead. In number of websites it is used for SA-5. I thought that may be they are different variants with the other one being a shortened one with boosters. but even the fins seem so different. The bottom is not the SA-1. Both are so different. The boosters on the bottom one are so big. they cant be from the SA-4. Both the missiles are static and are no way mobile like a SA-4 or SA-6.

    SS-18 MIRV capability

The SS-18 are infact capable of taking upto 30 MIrv and they were limited by the Strategic limitation treaties(some treaties). These treaties imposed all kinds of limitations including the number of MIRV ICBM can carry to ranges of Tu-22M. i aslo read that in the the book Soviet war machine. In case of an emergency or requirement these giants can carry upto 30 MRV(not MIRV) just to overwhelm a ABM System.

Any way after all these lengthy discussions about attack capabilities of Russia. I dont think we will ever have a war between Russia and AMerica not while both these countries have these huge ICBM and SLBM arsenals. According to a Defence study in Late 80, in any war between these two no land based aircrafts or Ships were expected to survive after 72 hours. only harriers(land based) and Submarines were expected to be the major surviving component apart from infantry and armor

I Really like the Russian ICBM’s man. They look gorgeous. The SS-18 is infact capable of carrying 30 MIRV and 10 of these Gaints can probably overwhelm any ABM shield. Now that the ABM treaty and also limitation treaties have been scrapped what happens if these gaints bo back to 30 warheads. Will it be against any treaty. if they can field anything new with the same throw away weight of a SS-18. that should be great. i dont think any American ABM shield will hold up to such a missile

I dont know much about X-35, but is the Lift fan in JSF, similar to the one in the now extinct Yak-141. What did the Americans follow Yak-141, They could have followed the british harrier. Why are they following russian Designs.

I think the F-18E/F, is one of the world’s most disastrous projects, just designed to keep the construction lines open and keep the people at work. It does not excel the F-14 in any of the basic characteristics of a fleet defence aircraft like range, Range of weapons. You guys will say F-14 was costlier to maintain, and F-18E/F has advanced electronics. I think for 1/4 th of the cost of acquiring So many F-18EF they can have all the F-14 and Basic F-18C/D updated. Any way the F-14 can be replaced by JSF arriving in a few years. This is a sheer waste of money, which they have in huge amounts
