Looks like my theory was correct! Glad they landed ok.
Ian
Quite.
Tom Alridge said one of the cabin crew panicked upon landing.
“She was screaming – ‘Get off, get off’ – she was literally pushing people down the chute,” he said.
Sounds to me like she was doing her job rather well!
Ian
Good effort 🙂 I always felt an urge to go to the MAN mound with a banner reading “Top Jet – the indisputable leader of the gang!” but somehow never did…
Ian
Sorry to dredge up an old thread but I thought you might be interested in how this sorry tale ended…
BBC: Middlesbrough airline fraudster’s web of lies

Well, the AD’s been issued now;
Your link doesn’t work for me, but this one does:

I had a Rolls Royce contractor (engine designer!) flying out to USA with us today
he said it definately isn’t a design fault with the engine
Well he would say that wouldn’t he 🙂
he theorised that the initial cause of the problem might be possibly due to volcanic ash from Mt Merapi!?
I can see how the ash might cause a surge but it seems unlikely that it would cause disintegration of the kind we saw on this flight?
Thanks for the link – it opens fine here and shows the A380 can use the Taxiway (J) leading up to 23R, so I’m no nearer to knowing why it went over to 23L.
There were a couple of aircraft queued up to depart on 23R so I wonder if it’s classed as a special case to avoid having to leave a big separation to the next departure?
Ian
(obviously I mean 23L/R, my compass is old :))
Indeed – I noticed the safety card was titled “B757-200 ETOPS” and there were only two registrations listed (G-FCLI and G-FCLH possibly?)
Ian
Sorry if I’m too late with this 🙂
I flew TCX on an Air Transat codeshare, booked from the Air Transat website, MAN-YYZ last month. The legroom is epic – I am normally packed into any charter airline seat (I’m all thighs!) but I had loads of room, a good 4 inches in front of my knees at least. The food was good and the cabin staff were friendly and helpful. The mid-90s vintage 757 was clean inside, but the IFE is terrible, aisle CRT screens with a rubbish picture. Take a book 😉
I hope this is of some help!
Ian
I would go along with this… the worst airline meal I’ve ever had was on US734, PHI-MAN last November. I think it was meant to be some kind of risotto but it was just lumpy white goo… unpleasant.
Ian
Seriously, are we going for the record for most number of repetitions in a single thread? 🙂
Ian
Just as an update, the broadcast time seems to have changed from 10pm to 9pm.
Ian
In a way I suppose it’s a good thing that large pieces are still on or near the surface, from a retrieval and investigation point of view. Doesn’t make the images any less shocking though 🙁
Ian
It’s actually starting next Monday (15th June) at 10pm, according to the BBC website. Definitely looks like it’s worth a watch!
