It would be interesting to know exactly how far away the person shooting it was.

I think it said the person was about 2200ft away, not exactly next door 🙂

Does this mean BA are converting all their orders to the ‘800R’?

    The article says:

The increased weight version, which is not a new “-800R” type variant, says Carcaillet, will be introduced with a new build standard in 2012. He adds that the performance gain came from a requirement for a couple of customers during sales campaigns against the Boeing 747-8I. BA and Emirates will be the first to receive the upgraded aircraft, in 2012.

So I guess there’s no change in the orders to -800R.

I saw this topic mentioned on the BBC today:

It seems the EC aren’t as keen as the airlines mentioned above!

Would be great if you could ask Andy 🙂 Whatever went ****up is serious enough to warrant bringing a replacement plane in… they’re not expecting to go until 8pm now (1455 scheduled)

    Terrible news 🙁

The ASN email says it’s the first fatal Dash 8 crash since 1995, the type has such a good reputation, old landing gear aside.

They do 2 flights a week for the MOD out of Brize Norton, usually to places sandier than here and I don’t mean Costa del Sol type.

You learn something every day 🙂

    Thanks!

Judging by the METARs of the northern airports, there’s more likely to be stuff diverting in the opposite direction over the next few hours!

    Andy,

    I’m Ian 🙂

    Great shots!

That Virgin 747 crossed 23R just after the Ryanair I was onboard had landed.

Have you got any pictures of it by any chance?

    Cheers

Unfortunately I just got there as the Virgin 747 was crossing 23R so I missed you by one, sorry! 🙁

Nice crops on the KLM 🙂

Thanks 🙂 When I saw it taxiing towards me I was sure to take several zillions shots… I figured at least one would look ok 😀

‘The US Airways plane that crashed into New York’s Hudson river last week had engine trouble two days earlier, according to safety investigators.’

    More Info.
