Probably just my dodgy editing. ๐
Paul
I couldn’t believe it could be your dodgy editing…

Seems I was right to doubt your modesty!
Ian
Has that last Thomson had a really shonky repaint done around the main side titles…?
Ian
No there was no link. Both screens had been on the aircraft for some time and it is un likely that they would have been changed by the same crew. Most screens are changed due to condition rather than being time ex. I have seen this kind of failure several times on various different aircraft types so it’s not unusual. The other common fault is delamination between the layers. This is where the joints between the layers become “Un glued”. This does not affect the structural integrity of the window, just makes it difficult to see through. There are quite large limits of delamination allowed but if it affects the crewโs vision then the screen has to be changed.

Thanks for the background ๐
See if he’d gone to Autoglass when he first saw it going he might not have had to pay his excess ๐
Awesome to the the KLM 738’s serving NCL! Gourgous aircraft on the outside and inside!
Is that definitely a 738? Do KLM have any E190s?
Ian
Do you think there’s a link between the events, e.g. windows from the same batch or fitted by the same team?
Ian
Brilliant shots, especially the two BMIs ๐
Ian
Shot 2…..now that would blow your plate of chips all over the place!!
Nice one Ian.
Si
Thanks Si ๐ It was a bit, for the want of a more eloquent word, ‘mental’ to have a 77W passing a few feet away from you to line up… and whilst it didn’t disturb my chips, it certainly disturbed my chest when he put his foot down ๐
Ian
Thanks all ๐
The BBC story seems to have been recently updated:
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/americas/7217977.stm
A passenger said the pilot was carried from the plane shouting and swearing, saying he wanted to talk “to God”.
Sounds like the poor bloke was in a bad way ๐
CNN mentioned online that they were covering a press conference with the Captain. By the time I clicked on the link the feed was dead. Did the Captain really give a press conference? I’m shocked if he did.
He did, it was live on News 24, but he just read a pre-prepared statement and didn’t answer questions as far as I saw.
I know eyewitness/passenger accounts are very unreliable but I was particularly interested in one passenger account on the BBC News website at http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/london/7195298.stm:
Antonio De Crescenzo, 52, from Naples in Italy, said there was little warning that the plane was in difficulty.
He said: “We were coming in to land but the plane felt like it should have been taking off. The engines were roaring and then we landed and it was just banging.
If the plane had suffered a catastrophic loss of engine power, wouldn’t the passengers notice it being unusually quiet rather than unusually loud?
Horrible to fly into and out of, the runway condition is awful, it resembles some of the worst of the M25, we always go out of there NTOP powered and max take off flap setting to get off the damn surface. Oh and you wouldn’t want your brakes to fail whilst backtracking to the end of Rwy 32 ๐
Apart from that, it’s ok ๐Nice pics by the way Ian
Sounds like you love the place Deano ๐ Excuse my ignorance but what does the “N” in “NTOP” stand for?
I must have been stood next to you when you took some of those!
None of mine made the grade unfortunately (well, my own grade at least), so I don’t really have any to post from the day!
What did you think of our little airport?
Paul
Yes, it appears I was inadvertently stood next to you! ๐ฎ Perhaps your grade is a bit higher than mine… I started off the day with the ISO set far too low for Leeds weather so they were a tad blurry, but I got better before darkness and frostbite won ๐
Having only spotted at MAN until now, “little” is probably the best word I could have used! If only they could level the airfield out a bit… then I wouldn’t have kept losing wheels behind grassy bits! :p
