That first bmi A320..is that their new livery ..or just some hybrid scheme??
According to airliners.net it’s a temporary basic scheme – I refer the honourable gentleman to: http://www.airliners.net/open.file/1275186/M/

I’ve had some interesting landings in fog at LBA but surprisingly have never had to divert (probably because I’m never on a 757, which can’t autoland because they don’t register the dip in LBA’s runway so the poor plane gets confused!)
It’s only R32 that has CAT IIIa. R14 is CAT I which isn’t autoland at all. The 75’s operate to CAT I minima on both 14 and 32 at LBA.
Sorry if this is a daft question, but why can the 757 only operate to CAT I on a CAT IIIa ILS? Is it just that they’re not fitted with CAT II autoland systems?
Thanks Bmused55, then it makes sense.
I had read in a newspaper that it was a baggage vehicle, so I found it really unusual.
Was the report you saw of this incident?

G-EZAI just declared a full mayday at MAN – EMA Diversion.
(sorry for the lethargic reply)
Would this have been a low fuel emergency?
not a so normal one in Quito

I can’t believe they didn’t elect to go around on that approach??
Fantastic 😀 That narrowly beats an equally classic safety talk I had on Virgin Blue a few months ago – the line that sticks in my mind is “in the event that this flight turns into a cruise, there are life jackets under your seat…”
Sorry to dredge up this thread, but I hadn’t realised that Emirates are sponsoring NCL’s new tower…

Let’s hope that the lessons learned in our move to our new tower will be absorbed!
Excuse my ignorance but what kind of problems have occurred?
Just hope the new design is better looking that the one they put up at Heathrow
cheers Cliff
Let’s hope it’s as funky as the new tower at NCL!

I’m a bit confused that it appears to have a French registration, could this be from a delivery flight?
Here we go…

Another question for the MAN guys if I may efiste2.
When I landed the other day I saw what appeared to be a small framework in the shape of Concorde but I couldn’t quite make it out. Can anyone enlighten me please?
1L.
When I was there a couple of weeks ago there was an apparently wicker Concorde on display next to the real one… I may have a picture of it somewhere…
What i dont get is that the warning sound/light for the parking brake didnt appear. I also think that they didnt even bother to do a landing check which bothers me quite a bit as a landing check is standered before landing. if they had done that then none of this would of happened
I had a flick through the AAIB report and it seems that the model of flight computer fitted at the time only gave a silent warning for the parking brake being engaged in-flight, and didn’t add an item to the landing checklist to take it off. Also, BMI’s SOP didn’t require the crew to check for advisories on the displays before landing… now it does, and newer model flight computers give an aural warning too.
Some lovely shots there,
What camera are you using?
Thanks 🙂 I have a 350D, but I’m somewhat limited in the lens department at the moment. I only own the 18-55mm kit lens that came with the camera but I am currently using an old 70-210mm Sigma lens that a friend has acquired for me 🙂 The only problem is that it only works with the aperture wide open – which led to some hilarious shutter speeds! (and depth of focus problems…)
Don’t ever recall seeing that many 777s going into BHX though?
At least one of EK’s two daily flights into BHX uses a 777-200 – I flew that route recently and made sure I was on one of their 777-200s with the upgraded IFE 😀
