i really can’t get over how bitchy the old aircraft ‘enthusiast’ world is.
no matter whan anyone does you’ll always get somoene picking holes in it and whingeing about it!
whether its the sea vixen is a funny colour, that FW-190 has got funny markings, that Lanc never had those markings….god its so tedious!
i’ve worked on aircraft for nearly 25 years now and everytime i’ve met somone involved in the restoration side of things i’m always impressed by their passion for the job they are doing, often for not the best wages in the world. it must be heartbreaking for them to spend years restoring an aircraft, just for them to read on a forum like this a bunch of ‘enthusiasts’ slagging of the choice of marking or colour!
i’d be interested to know if anyone who’s contibuted to this thread know the detailed terms and conditions from when Dan air handed over the Comet to duxford….surely if duxford are paying for the repaint, they get a say in what colour its going to be?
and do you really think it would jepordize future donations to the museum if in many years time, the aircraft of a now defunct airline is panted in another scheme by the people who’ve looked after it, maintained it and housed it?
it all seems so bloody petty!
Hasn’t it?
It did have at one time; WW2 possibly?
I know some record attempt with an electric car was held up years ago due to some unexploded ‘ordnance’ problem.
WA$.
was probably washed up stuff from the pembrey ranges. i’m from accross the estuary on the gower peninsular, and several beaches there (whitford burrows, llangennith) have problems with ordanance getting washed up there, even tenby, miles down the coast has had the odd bit of stuff from pembrey washed up on it.
Looks like a C-130K (C.1 or C.3) to me.
its definately not a ‘K’ . the K has square tie down fittings and the anti slip walkway is painted on.
the role equipment in the photo is not fitted to K’s and is only fitted to the J in RAF service.
if its not an RAF aircraft it could be a H or J model.
they’ve also filmed on cefn sidan beach which is next to pembrey.
pendine having a range on it indeed!
they stopped the public driving on pendine due to the danger of someone getting run over. the only exception since the ban was when they celebrated the centenery of parry thomas’ death in babs. but even then it was hard to get the local council to agree to let vintage cars on the beach.

just to add one to 1988. i was there with a couple of RAF GR1 Tornados from TWCU/45sqn. it absoloutely chucked it down, and i think we may have been the only fast jet to be based there for the weekend as i remember after our jet took off all you could hear were car alarms!
and on a side not, it was that weekend i had my first ever go on a mobile phone. one of our pilots had one and he let us have a go.
if its an RAF C-130 thats being used as the camera plane, its a C-130 J. you can tell by the stick on anti slip floor patches, and the tie down rings.
Thanks Laurent
I have these, the switch is original, the plate of the switch and the face of the U/C indicator are not. So at least a nice filler.
Corke sold simplified Hurricane replica panels like his Spitfire´s.
So he needed them to fill the holes.By the way. The mysterious hole would suit a Kigass primer pump!
The distance from screwhole to screwhole would fit my drawing (3cm)
So maybe they really planned to mount the primer to the panel.Regards,
Herbert
the chap in the ebay advert above is selling a kigass primer pump thingy, and says its suitable for hurricanes and spitfires.
thats very spectacular!
although i’m sitting here chuckling away at the double standards on here!
someone posts a video of a vulcan APU being started up in a garage and loads of people say how irresponsible, dangerous etc…. but a bloke firing a cannon found in a 60 year old wreck, with possibly 60 year old ammunition is a good old boy having a bit of fun!
will it be at legends?
(sorry, someone had to do it!)
Happy New Year!
Of course the real irony here is that civil aviation has had a far bigger impact upon the average man than military aviation; being one of the powerhouses of and enabling the globalisation we are experiencing. We should also remember, that contary to popular belief, that civil avition often leads military. Witness the introduction of the DC3 when the US airforce was still flying biplanes or the advent of fly by wire with the A320.
Therefore I would argue that if we are really aviation enthusiasts as oppossed to military aviation fans we sould grasp the nettle and get those Brittanias and BAC 1-11s etc under cover, or else in a very few years we will be decrying their extinction in the same way as the HP42 or Empire flying boats.
Steve.
of course you could say the same about civil aviation, it wouldn’t be where it is today without military aviation.
in WWII we went from starting off with biplanes still in use, to ending up with unguided missiles and jet fighters with swept wings. all this in the space of 6 years, much of the technology then went on to be used in civil aircraft.
the use of composites and fly by wire technology have been pioneered in military aviation, and since taken up by civil aviation.
just in case you didn’t see the link posted on your previous thread…plenty of pics on this website…

Hi
Thanks to everyone who went to the trouble of answering my question.
I would like a copy of the book in question. Where is this book shop and have you a contact phone number?Freebird
the book shop is in bury st edmunds in suffolk, i’m popping in there this morning, so will see if its still there and get contact details, price etc.
does the orange autogyro have a fuselage from an avro 504?
Im’e pretty sure its a Polish PZL P23 Karas. All the bits fit but its certainly not British, and other than prototypes visiting France prior to WW2 wasnt involved in combat there.
does the karas have a tail wheel?
the book of that series (fighter pilot) is in my local second hand book shop in good condition and cheap!
