looks to be from a fairly highly stressed part of the airframe due to the closeness of the anchor nuts around the access panel holes.
the red stuff could be redux bonding or maybe high temp RTV which has on occasions been used as a jointing compound, indicating it might be the side of an engine nacelle, this would tie in with the number of access panels in such a relatively small area.

that also looks like a seal retainer along the bottom in the first picture.

Nigel (aka ‘Buccsociety’) would be pleased to here that.

He knows someone who’ll take a mould & run off a fresh batch, but they just need an original to go by.

Any idea if that ones available Bloodnok ?

    .

yes it should be available, its in gillings now somewhat smaller yard in diss in norfolk.
i’ve mentioned it on here before, but i guess it didn’t get picked up on.
they’ve had quite a change around there now due to building work on adjacent land, and i think some of the various canopies that were thare are gone now (lightning, F-4, JP), but i saw the canberra nose glass (complete with flat window) there in the summer.
if its important, i can probably go and check there this weekend.

there’s a fair bit of other aircraft parts there as well, mostly odd instruments/boxes, odd bits of harness (buckles, leg/armrestraint buckles) quite a few test sets, fasteners, and tooling.
quite a bit is modernish stuff, but theres odds and sods from older aircraft types that were retired in the 80’s.

i think that they are just rehashing old foootage they have on this series, they’ve featured ken wallis before on this program, and they did a similar thing last week on archie scott-brown (the racing driver), having previously featured him on the program.
on both of these occasions though there was a bit of new footage mixed in with the previous stuff.

he seemed to have a hell of a life, and the incident with the barrage ballon and the wellington looked pretty scary! i bet his life would make a fabulous read in a book.

there’s a spare nose plexiglass in the local military surplus yard, its a bit scratched now, but i’m sure with a bit of work most of them would polish out.

i find it hard to get away from work.
i worked on hawks and tornados whilst in the raf, and work on C-130’s now. but originally from near fairwood airport, swansea, you end up see all of the above either in the circuit, or just flying round.
where i live now is near two large american airbases, so i end up with endless streams of f-15’s and assorted heavy’s, in the other direction is the local battle area, so when they are playing you end up with loads of helicopters of all descriptions flying round.

so in the end whether i’m just heading home for a quit weekend with my folks, or just coming home from work, its hard to get away from all the flying stuff!

i sort of started collecting sick bags (unused!) by accident.
my uncle worked for various oil companies, and he’d bring me back a bag of whatever he’d flown on, from all over the world. also working on various airliners i’d pick up a bag or 2 just to add to the collection.
not added anything for ages, and if i could find anybody else that collected them, i’d let them have them for the cost of postage!

i also find that its hard to leave things at boot sales if they are cheap, hence i’m now in posession of a mint SAS european map, with a DC-6 (i think on the cover) from 1956. (again, if its of intrest to anyone, available for the price of postage!)

its hard not to pick up the odd thing in work, i’ve got a nose cone off a practise bomb, a main engine bolt from an RB-211, a wheel bearing from a C-130…..they make great paper weights!
