An FMC or something like FSNav makes life a lot easier. SIDs and STARs are a pretty basic requirement too, or else you will get seriously delayed, or even refused departure if you are trying to fly from a busy airport like Heathrow.
VOR Frequencies can be found in the map view, or better still note them down from the flightplan. However an FMC equipped aircraft and/or FSNav is really useful, FSNav was my best friend for years, and even now when using advanced FMS equipped aircraft, I still refer to FSNav a lot.
