Jet 2 should follow in Monarch footsteps and start to do charter flight’s.

You do know Monarch were originally a Charter airline, who branched into offerring scheduled flights because the traditional Charter market is in decline, not the other way around?

Irrespective of that, the Charter market isn’t what it once was anyway. The vast majority of “charter” flights from the traditional operators like Monarch, Thomsonfly, and XL can be bought online without buying a holiday through the same company at the same time.

Additionally, travel agents like Thomson will happily sell you flights on BA, or Jet2 flights they have access to. It’s not like Jet2 are sitting there saying “we only want to sell in one place, on jet.com” they actively sell through a variety of different mediums, including their own in house “charter” arm Jet2 Holidays.

Yup, announced a few weeks ago now. Part of the consolidation to LCY following the CityJet marriage. Not to mention the onset of competition from FlyBe.

After 19 FlyBe Q400 flights I’ve finally had my share of debacles with them.

A simple LBA-SOU-LBA return trip…

LBA-SOU ended up being cancelled due to a “tech” Q400, so it became MAN-SOU.

SOU-LBA started fine, but after sitting for 15 minutes on the taxiway we returned to the stand and shut down. G-JEDI (the oldest in the fleet) went nowhere for the rest of the day, and once again I ended up back in MAN.

After missing my Dad’s birthday one way, and turning up 5 hours late for work the other way, FlyBe are certainly not getting my business for an upcoming trip to GLA!

And to think that as reported some locals are supporting them by providing food and whatever else for them to keep the protest going while the jobless layabouts are sucking the life out of their tax contributions.

The thing that really gets me going about this “camp” is that the entire organisation is set up under the premise of utilising direct action to get their points across. It is NOT going to be just a peaceful protest on a field.

Thankfully the courts saw past the arguments of some of the total lunatics behind the operation and they are not allowed anywhere near the airport.

However there are an awful lot of people down there who would like to do nothing more than smash the place up (I should know, I have to go to uni with some of them :rolleyes: ).

Now although the total demolition of LHR would be a really good idea, and I for one would certainly pick up a sledgehammer to help destroy T4 (or maybe make that the FCC, not sure which I hate most!), the random actions of some deluded “protestors” are just going to cause cahos this weekend I fear. 🙁

Stay away if you can. Hopefully the police are on top of things and it will pass without incident. I’m not so sure if it will or not…
