Wow, some of those are really hard hitting.

The depressing thing is the fact that the photos from the last 10 years show almost the exact same things happening that were happening in the photos from 50 years ago 🙁

I will certainly second Vatsim, I havent done an “offline” flight for many years now. Now that Squawkbox 3 is available, and also now that the Vatsim guys have reorganised the pilot training sections on http://www.vatsim.net there really is no excuse not to at least try Vatsim.

It isnt for everybody, but I would strongly recomend that everybody tries it once or twice, just to see what your missing!

Blimey Mark L, some high rankers there. The only family officer I’m aware of was Cecil Truman who flew Blenheims, don’t really know much about his combat career apart from the fact that he was awarded the DFC, is there a way of finding out more about his service record.
My father was obviously highly thought of during his wartime exploits with the Royal Artillery, he finished up as a warrant officer but was offered the incentive of a commision if he stayed on after the war, should have taken it, he went back to his ever poorly paid job in the provincial printing industry, got put on standby for Korea but never went in the end, called a Z Reservist I beleive.

Indeed I was quite surprised by what I found. The Major General was also Commanding Officer of the Black Watch from 1916-1918 in WW1 I have just found out from a bit more reading!

I’m still doing lots of digging into my family history, particularly on my Mothers side, but heres what I know so far:

Paternal
Grandfather – Seargent Royal Signals
Great Uncle – Japanese POW

Maternal
Grandfather – Lieutenant Colonel 8th Army
Great Great Uncle – Major (Doctor)
Great Great Uncle – Major General Sir Victor Fortune 51st Highland Division (POW at St Valery after Dunkirk defeat)

I really must get back into the research as its fascinating stuff.

Well I was going to say eyebrows instead of hands, but then I thought I’ve probably seen Dan-minus an eyebrow more times than I’ve seen him with both intact!

It was due to us having a very irregular spring. The Queen Wasps came out early in a warm spell we had, which was then followed by a particularly cold spell which killed them all, meaning no baby wasps were born.

Daddy-long-Legs do seem to be far more prevalent here however, this house is swarming with them, and they have a tendency to fly down and attack me when I’m at the desk.

A brief recon mission followed by a search and destroy exercise last night soon solved that problem though :diablo:
