what’s the news here??? it happened before again and again. Russia sells a fighter to China then China produces indigenous model. After couple more years it sells these planes for a fraction of the price tag of original to really poor countries. Who thought it will be different for Su-27 🙂 We might soon see a “navalized” J-11 too.

However, I agree nowadays it is a little bit different since China has gained substantial technological know-how and economical resources. I don’t think we will see China buying any weapons from another country in big sums. They can produce almost every equipment an army needs.

This is the most expensive base on the world. If the figures are true, Ukraine will have more than 4billion$ indirectly every year which is a great deal for them.

Do you really not understand the concept of “R&D”? An F-22 purchased today does NOT cost $350 million, or $275 million, or $200 million.

I understand very well. Why do you think R&D for F-22 is independent from F-22???

If they order 100 more F-22. The price will decrease but still you have to calculate R&D. That is the real cost of the plane for us, the tax payers.

    Isn’t this really simple??

    As of 2010, for 187 F-22, USA has spent ~65 billion$: 1 F-22 costs ~350 million dollars to taxpayers.

    For EF,

In 2003 UK said the cost will be 20billion pounds (30 billion $) for 160 aircraft. So for UK citizens EF costs 200 million$ a piece.

If one compare R-77 dimesions (20cm diameter ) or R-27 (~25cm) to that of the probable weapons bays (~1meter), will see that PAK-FA can carry 8 of them easily. 6 will be a huge surprise to me.

Also, I cannot believe people are looking these pictures, drawings and claiming engine can be seen from front. But hey, love can make a person blind 😀

wow… great pictures. Thanks for sharing.

The picture which was shoot above does not show that much of a size difference actually. I would say their wing/body area is pretty close to each other. Of course 30 is much taller and have the canards (which makes it look larger) but still I think max take of will be relatively close. PAK-FA will be probably lighter but still difference wont be that dramatic.

I tried to put up some data on the 3 generations of engine within AL-31 family , the data on the new 117 ( sfc/service life etc) is not known

    AL-31FP —> Su-30MKI ( 4 + ) link

    AL-31FP specifications:

    http://www.npo-saturn.ru/img/editifr/53_1_Teh_harakteristiki_AL-31_FP.jpg
    T/W ~ 8:1

    AL-31 ( 117C ) —> Su-35S ( 4++ ) link

    AL-31(117S) specifications:

    Full afterburning thrust,kgf 14,000 Normal / 14,500 Combat mode
    Specific fuel consumption.min.kg/kgf.h 0.67
    Weight,kg 1520
    Length,m 4.99
    Inlet diameter,m ~ 0.93
    T/W ~ 9:1

    AL-31 ( 117 ) —> PAK-FA( 5th Gen )link

    AL-31(117) specifications:

    Full afterburning thrust,kgf 15,000
    Specific fuel consumption.min.kg/kgf.h 0.67

    The ‘117’ (aka AL-41F1) was flight-tested aboard Su-27M b/n 710 in Jan. prior to PAK-FA flights. Incoporates much AL-41F tech, moreso than 117A & C and pushes 15T (compared to 15.5T of the F119).

The brand-new 5G engine is ~a decade away.

Interview with the guy who designed it and that monster- the AL-41F, Victor M. Chepkin (legible google-translate):

    http://archive.russia-today.ru/2009/no_12/12_from_backlog_01.htm

It was a great read, thanks for posting. His remarks on China is interesting too.

Since 117 is a 1:10 ratio engine with 15ton trust, PAK-FA has 30ton trust for now.

This is getting too easy, Foxmulder. All we need now is our eyeballs and a reference point 😉
