Is anyone still thinking this aircraft designed for low speed

Also, trailing edge of the wing definitely has an angle.

As far as I can tell the “new” engine is neither a Al-31 variant nor regular WS-10. In my opinion it is an upgraded WS-10 which we didnt see before. At least a WS-10 with newly designed exhaust. I have never seen this exhaust before.

    Speculation is fun.

How one can claim J-20 has “crude fuselage topology” by looking at these pictures is beyond me..

Also, a great comparison picture from CDF:

I would say 2nd airframe with different engines. I just don’t see the point of changing engines in this critical testing stage. If you change engines you need to repeat all taxi tests again. This really interesting. Maybe they are trying to evaluate two types of engines too.

No one will be looking forward a nice super-cruise capability to the J-XX.

    Well, I am…

Comparisons like this are never valid. The truck would have to be exactly the same distance from the fuselace centerline in order for this comparison to be valid. It is obvious just from glancing at the shadows being cast that the truck is not the same distance from each airframe.

Well, of course it is not 100%. But, it gives a pretty good idea. It is not like 24-25m 35 tons monster once we thought. Its size is very comparable to a Flanker. We’ll see.

Do you think Russians provided the newest PAK-FA 117S engines of which several examples have been built so far? 🙂 Doubt that…..

Ok I meant Al-31 variant possible 117S. And, yes I believe Russia can sell 117S because they will probably have a much better one in couple of years.

J-10 comparison picture was great, answers two important questions: Size and engine. Size is almost identical to a Flanker. This answers engine mystery for me too. It is probably 117S. Since it is a clear design, I am sure this plane can super cruise. Intake is definitely large enough and I really dont think DSI will be a problem. Of course this are just speculations from my observations. Also, if you believe previous statements, it is designed for stealth, supercruise, super-maneuverability and short take-off (4S thingy 🙂

    Happy new year!

I’m not an expert , but regarding the size of this thing , to me it doesn’t look as big as some folks think it is …i would be surprised if J-20 is going to be bigger than a Flanker. I don’t think this plane is a humongous monster twice the size of an F-22.

    Just my 2 cents.:)

The more I look at the pictures, the more I think what you write is true. Probably its dimensions are comparable to that of Su-27. However, I think it still has a larger “volume” than PAK-FA and F-22.

Gee foxie.. ever heard of internal fuel tanks..?
Thats right, they have to be installed somwhere in that airframe..

Take the F-22, we all seen how big(deep) the main w-bays are.
Not that large, due to the smaller overall size of the airframe.
But let us also remember that the internal fuel capacity on the F-22 is less than many other fighter design out there.

Soo how big is the internal fuel storage in that J-XX protoype.
If they are huge than less space for weapons bay and vice verca..

Also whats the physical size of those engines..?

Are you even reading what I am writing???

    Good day sir..

If I tell how I know I have to silence you, haavarla 😛 oo geeez.. dont you see the pictures??? Do you think J-20 is smaller than PAK-FA? From the pictures it looks like, from all dimensions, it is the largest one among three. That is why it has the largest volume. (Also note that I am talking about the volume of the body not the weapon bays)… Less anger more careful reading.

I think the canards are a bit different, they appear to me to be more like the ones on the SAABs drawings of a 5th generation plane.

yep, canards do not look like in Paralay’s drawing, especially from front.

Easy Soyuz, no need to be angry 🙂 Everyone can think whatever they want, that much anger is not good for the health.

For the last week, every single day we saw a better picture. It was really fun.

I am sure J-XX has internal missile bays on the sides like F-22.

It looks its internal volume is larger than those of F-22 and PAK-FA.

Those engines really look like AL-31 variant to my surprise.

It will be really fun to see three (PAK-FA, F-22 and J-XX) next to each other 🙂 It may happen in Paris airshow
