PeterW nice idea about the Harrier flypast but there are are no Royal Navy Sea Harriers left flying, (all replaced by Harrier GR7/GR9)
In any case the Falkland Sea Harriers that do survivor were all modified to FA2standard and now look nothing like the FRS1, except XZ493 on the ski jump at Yeovilton which crashed as a FRS1 and was rebuilt for the museum with parts of a Harrier GR3.
bexwh773, No. All RAF/Royal Navy Wessex are gone. Quite a few Wessex and Sea King are in storage/instructional use at HMS Sultan and there might be some veterans there. And these could easily see the light of day, come on MOD, give an old Sea King a lick of 1980’s paint and stick on the back of a lorry and tour the UK.
seaking 93. I am not surprized to hear that Yeovilton Museum has a Falklands display. But I am going to guess that the relavant aircraft are going to be well hidden behind the ‘information panels’ Yeovilton, like most museums, has many large exhibits which simply can not be appreciated in door ,let alone photographed.
creakling door. The point I was making about a travelling exhibition would allow more of the general public to attend such events, not every body can get to Yeovilton or Duxford. Also why limit attendance to avitaion events? My local County Show attracts 10’s thousands people and these shows take place thorough the summer months, if a venue can provide the space why not use it.
Sadly the appearance of Chinook Bravo November is highly unlikely due to the high utilization of British equipment and the time and cost of transport back to UK.
OK its not going to happen because of transport cost, manpower and security. But I was thinking along similar lines to the VE day event in Hyde Park(?) couple of years ago.
Congratulations to all Falkland veterans, 25 years is a time to remember, what you did and those who who did not return. The weekend of events will be called a ‘celebration’ by some members of the press, I am sure its not a term the military will use. The Flypast will be a key event, and will no doubt get five seconds on the TV, but what of the bigger picture ? Will any of the major museums or airshows dare to ‘mention the war’ and promote exihibits with a Falklands connection. I know there will be costs involved be could one of the surviving Harriers not become a travelling exhibit and attend a few events, displayed on Horse Guards Parade for a week, and then to airshows at Waddington, Duxford, Fairford ? I would really like to see it appear at musuems who could offer it a home for a week or two, Newark, Coventry, Yeovilton ? Probably time is too short to ‘kick ass’ at the MOD but it seem a a nice idea.

p.s.
Can we get this thread back too the Falklands 25th and leave the politics at home ?
I visited the museum last month and all was well. The Aviation hall is open 10.00 till 4.00, however the rest of the galleries, army, guns ect closed for lunch 12.00 till 2.00 (?) The whole museum is closed on Mondays.
Regarding a long term closure, I too read the report and contacted the Museum to be told that the report was misleading in so much as the closure will only be to parts of the Aviation Hall as the structure is cleaned and repainted. This will lead to disruption to opening hours and some exhibits will be removed to storage (will they return ?) as another report mentions a more ‘National focus’ to the collection. As for time scale it implied mid to end of this year. Other plans at the Museum are to provide roofs over the two external court yards were the tanks and boats are.
The ‘Proud Bird Restaurant’ had one (still there ?) Located on the freeway at the end of Los Angeles International airports runway. Seem to rembemer that this and other theme restaurants were something to do with David Tallichet. Guess that it depends on what you want to do with the replica as to how easy it will be to build one. What’s you plan ???
A book by Roy Blewett titled ‘Survivors 2002’ (ISBN 0 9530413 1 X) listing all propliners states that there are 22 DC-6 listed as preserved, are you interested in one particular airframe ? If time allows I’ll copy out the preserved DC-6’s. However the book is dated 2002, any know if a more current list is avialable ?

same can be said about XH558.
Stunning thread, congratulations to all who have contributed. The collected information is surely to valuable to be lost to cyber space. Can a file be added to a database section, I know that some Forum’s have such. I believe it deserves a wider audience, maybe a well known monthly aviation magazine would like to publish it ???
As has been mentioned the Brussels Air Museum has supper collection of WW1aircraft, and as luck would have it I have just returned from a visit there last week. Hope the attached are of interest.
From another forum

Would haved hoped to see a Firefly back with the RNHF. If money is available to purchase another Sea Fury could it not be channeled into a UK restoration project, or indeed an existing airworth example from the USA?
what ever happens if a benifactor is offering to obtain aircraft for the flight that is great news.
Without wishing to invoke bad memories what has happened to the remains of WB271 and the spares holding that RNHF must have had. With enough support may an Firefly is possible. It would be a great memorial to all concerned.

This looks very doggy, same picture is being reused by another user, based in China, whoes history only starts last month. Would suggest that fighterace is OK but would not trust the China dealer. Ebay has been informed of this strange going on. The China based dealer also appears to have a rocket moter from Chuck Yeagers X-1 !!!!
Dont know much about pleasure flying in Moths at Sywell, but on Saturday 23rd was offered a flight in either G-ANDE or G-AGPK as ‘both were avialable’. Best of luck with the refund.
Why do you ask about this? I don’t think Iraqi has ever had F-86’s, during the 1960s the had British aircraft, Vampires, Vemons then Hunters, then they used Russian equipment. Can not think of any Arab airforce who used F-86, apart from maybe Saudi Arbia who tested some??
More info wanted.
Anybody know if the Chipmunk meet is Saturday only. If so what, if any, public admission is being planned.
Already booked for the Sunday airshow but might be worth a visit also on Saturday.
