Skyvan G-PIGY at Sibson on Sunday
Excellent idea to allow a reduced price for the non flyers, the opertunity to see the Museum Seafire outside is most welcome news. But would it be too much to ask that FAA museum opens the Cobham Hall reserve collection on the same day? Don’t get me wrong I am not asking for a ‘free visit’ but faced with a 500 mile round trip it would make the jounery all the more worth while. I managed a visit to the museum a couple of years ago whilst on a family holiday in the area, but I simply can not afford this sort jounery and still not get to see a large part of a museums collection. Any Forum members go contacts with FAA Museum?

What’s the reg of the Skyvan please.
G-PIGY has been opperating out of Sibson last week.
Agree someone should preserve a Skyvan, guess whilst their still flying they are worth big bucks, think there are still some hauling fish around Alaska?

Try

there should be a way of searching by aircraft type, otherwise its all in serial number order.
Also the book by Steven J Bond has a full production list which seems quite good (Midland Counties 1985 ISBN 0 904597 55 5)

Two questions :-
How much is it to get into Bruntingthorpe?
Where does the money go, if it is not given to the aircraft owners?
Great to see photos of the lightnings new colour scheme.
I understand the problems of airfield security and insurance for allowing public access to see XS458. but why do her engine runs have to be in such a secret? Can somebody please PM me next time the aircraft is active.

Not seen any photos of the TFC Curtiss Hawk at Ferte Alais, did it appear at the show.
Would be great to see the Morane Saunier at Legends does anybody know who owns this aircraft and where it fly’s from??
DOUGHNUT (yes, I am still here!!!!)
Earth bound civilian. Really just hoping to photogragh something more interesting than the local beach. I will try contacting RAF Akrotiri before I leave just hoping to gain permission to the photo the Lightning, Phantom and Whirlwind
The colour scheme looks great, but to truely appreciate it it needs to be seen outside on the grass without any unnessacery clutter, as has been mentioned before some of us would gladly pay the entrance fee and more to simply photo this one aircraft under the right circumstances.
Those fortunate enought to be able to get ‘behind the barriers’ should make the most of the opertunity, in a few years time it will be hung from the roof where nobody with be able to see the detail of the restorers work, the aircraft will gather dust and no inspection / maintance will be carried out. the aircraft with become sad, forgoten and un-noticed by the general public and enthuistist alike.
It been a long time since I made a comment, so here goes.
A replica Whirlwind would be great, although not remembered that well it looks a great little machine and would certainlty be a talking point.
Something much easier would be a Gnat in Red Arrows colours.
Although not a fan of hanging aircraft from the ceiling a Dakota and glider would look good.
Comment has been made about the American types on show, the answer is to simply repaint the P-51 and B-25 in representive RAF colour schemes, similar to the P-40 and P-47, I believe the B-17 should remain in USAAF colours as a tribute to their crews.
Moving some of the ‘junk’ which appears to be filling the museum would be a good start, why can model displays, engines, staff cars not be placed around the outer walls allowing the public to see the aircraft.

DH Hornet and Supermarine S6B would be top of my list for flying replicas.
But lets not forget that ground running replica’s, built to original specifications and powered by original engines would be just as welcome.
Imagin a collection containing Stirling and Halifax both able to be seen and heard outside. I am sure it would bring a tear to the eye of many former aircrew. I have always considered the cost of building to airworthy standard far greater than constructing a ground based taxiable example, there is also the risk, however small, of a total loss if something goes wrong in the air.

The aviation collection at Khodinka (spelling?) is indeed closed. I understand that the construction work started two years ago at the old airterminal. The last photos I saw showed the Migs hiding behind large excavtions. The report mentioned some aircraft being moved to other locations but I would doubt that many will be saved. Great shame as the collection covered most Mig, Yak and Su types used by the USSR in the 60s and 70s. If only one or two could escape to the west.

Which one is it? Did you note the reg please
Big thankyou to all who replied to this question. Please add photos as you find them.
I have sent pm to those who offer to scan books
