Exactly where were these shots taken ?
Great colour scheme, but if enthustists are not going to get acces to see her (let alone the general public) where’s the point?
I asked the same question about taxi runs earlier this year, Cranfield is over an hour drive for me so can not just go on spec. When I have passed by on weekends the aircraft has always been covered up so there was no point in asking for permission to enter the airfield to take photos, however my guess would be that that woul dnot be allowed anyway.

Great sham that Mr Russel wants to keep his toys to himself. Having recently visted the CWM at Hamilton I would have thought that its location would have been far more approperiat place to keep his collection.

Dave Homewoods photo of the Havard showsthe worst possible lighting, a spotlight facing the camera, it simply burns out the image.
I have heard that flash photography is a problem to some security and fire detection systems, so in that instance the ban on flash is quite correct.

The last one is a strange mock (made for a film) its based on a Nanchange CJ-5 Piston engined trainer, it is (was) in a Chinese museum.
Mike J – please confirm where both Fireflies are at present I though one was in ARCo hangar and the other dismantled in storage.
Neither did I suggest that it should be on the flightline walk (last place it should to be), on display as static exhibit with a little info on where it has come from and what is planned, one day we will see her fly.

If anbody on the forum has a contact with ARCo please copy this request, but with so little support from other forum members they might not consider it worth while.

Bump
Thanks for the support Steve, obviously nobody else agrees with us 🙁
Although its not a ‘flyer’ could the Swedish Firefly not be pulled onto the static. Photos a couple of weeks ago showed it on wheels close to the doors, inside the HFL / ARCo hangar. Ok if the aircraft is being worked on I dont suggest that she be moved. But if its safe to do so many people would appreciate the oppertunity to see and photo such a rare and new exhibit. Maybe a collection box in front of the Firefly could generate a small sum, either for the aircrafts restoration or in memory of last years terrible Firefly incident.

Surely the Comet, although incomplete, could be saved and taken in to care of Peter Vallence’s excellent collection.

I would have thought that the work required to turn the car/cockpit into an airworthy item would be to great. If they want a Mark 1 (why ?) they would be better to contact the Finnish Air Force museum, we I visited years ago they had several mk1 and mk4 cockpits it storage.

Thanks for your help.

No point in painting it if you going to leave it outside

I have never been to the Southend Airshow as I assumed it to be a flying only event on the sea front. How long has Southend airport been doing an open day for the event ? What did it cost to visit the airport, was it open both Sunday and Monday, access look pretty good or did you have a special press pass ? Could be one to look at for next year. Did the VUlcan do an engine run, that would be worth the trip on its own.
