It has been stated on here many times that unfortunately the human remains found in the local area to the crash site could not be positively identified by dna as those of Flt Sgt Copping. But this does not seem to be believed by members of this forum.
Even the local area of Sahara Desert is a big area to search, and no doubt there are many remains of many men from all sides who fought and sadly died in World War 2, and other conflicts. Not only the Sahara, but all over Europe, indeed everwhere on this planet that war has touched. As and when these brave souls are discovered, be it on the battlefields of the Somme or the jungles of Borneo, their remains will be and are treated with the respect deserved of the fallen.
The MOD has gone through a period of massive change recently, historic regiments and squadrons disbanded, perfectly serviceable aircraft and ships taken out of service, brought on in part by financial difficulty and government mismanagement, and can hardly afford to man its current commitments.
So, despite what we feel is right and proper for Flt Sgt Copping and all those with no know grave, for the time being, and coupled with the political situation across the Middle East, any further recovery mission sadly cannot be considered.

Ok, lets play a game of “what if”
What if Flt Sgt Copping’s P-40 turned up at the conservation centre at Cosford in time for the open week,(announced or unannounced-take your pick) ?
Would attending forum members that are so vocal on this site be as vocal towards the staff in the MBCC working on the aircraft ?

I don’t think the business arrangement between the RAF Museum and Tim Manna has anything whatsoever to do with us!

Unless (and until) the regions stabilises a great deal more than is currently the case, I doubt there is any opportunity for the story to continue.

    Well said Bruce:applause:

I may be a newbie on this forum, but I’ve noticed for a long time that the RAF Museum is the ONLY museum that gets a regular slagging off by forum members, can someone please explain why??

Can a VC10 get out? G-ARVM’s fuselage was moved out of the site so it should be possible to get one in. Also G-ARVF was taken apart and reassembled 120km further on in Germany so there is indeed a precedent.

Ok, so taking a VC10 apart, transporting it across the planet and reassmbling it is possible… but at what cost ?
Was G-ARVF reasssembled inside a hangar ? The RAFM Nimrod was stored all over the site for ages, and put back together where the entrance to the Dornier exhibition now stands. That top carpark would have to be closed for months to assemble a VC10, if there was room.
The Nimrod was a tight fit up there…
And that ONLY had to be moved to the rear of the visitor centre…

I was told by the person that refused to grant permission for the VC10 to land at Cosford that the plan was now for it to be moved by road. I watch with interest.

    So do I…

I seem to recall that Nimrods had new wings fitted during their lifespan, (at Bournemouth ? ) but has anyone ever tried taking a VC10 apart since they were originally built ? I don’t think a VC10 major servicing at Brize was that involved.

And having seen photos of just how much clearance there was under the local railway bridges when they moved the Nimrod fuselage and wings into Cosford, would a VC10 actually get through that way ?

( Cobham at Bournemouth were contractors for the ill-fated Nimrod MRA4 conversion till BAe took it back to Woodford…:( )

    Something like that.
Whatever it is, it’s either dropped off or some light-fingered little erk has had it away while Monty wasn’t looking !

Found this on the internet, says it’s from 1956. Difficult to compare with the film, but do look similar.

    Not Monty…

compare the still photo top left in the flight global article with the one here at post 5.

    http://www.britmovie.co.uk/forums/ask-film-question/116068-high-flight-1957-feature-film.html

Zoom in on Monty’s left breast pocket in both stills, colour one is missing something big, bright and shiney…

But if you want 100 per cent British oddities, just go for a stroll round Cosford.

I appreciate that most of the visitors to Cosford come from the West Midlands…

    but they’re not ALL oddities….:dev2:

And wasn’t there (apparently) an RAF pilot flying F117s over Iraq in 1991?

No B52s, but Lockheed was interested in pushing the F117B to the RAF – but that never happened either.

Seem to recall reading somewhere ( Flypast, the mag ? ) that an ex Red Arrows pilot went out to the States and was flying stealth fighters, exchange programme of some sort ?
Think it may have been after GF1 though.

from another aviation forum, a link to a list of RAF F117 jockeys…

    Tacky…:stupid:

Have removed the image having noticed the infamous wording “Crown Copyright” at the bottom of the article…
And the fact that there’s an unmarked helicopter hovering over my house…
