Another hybrid
Bearing in mind that MYT have lost £1100 million in the two years up to September 2004, I really don’t suppose that a splash of paint on the side of the jets is really considered to be that important.
I’ve got some happy memories of air shows at Finningley – particularly the Vulcan Scramble and the total nutter in the RAAF F111K at the Silver Jubilee Display!!!
28 (?) years ago, but THAT I can remember very clearly!…anyone got pics of the Aussie F-111 doing his ‘flamethrower’ routine at Finningley?

Heard one TV hack saying 250 tonnes, and another 421 tonnes, so, knowning the accuracy of our friends in the press, probably neither.
To give a bit of credit, flicking between BBC News 24, ITN News and Sky, it was Sky who offered by far the best coverage, as their ‘captive’ expert was a current Airbus test pilot…well done Sky.

As ever, Kev35’s response is the most reasoned. If you were ever in a situation on a commercial aircraft when that level of force is required, then EVERYONE, from MI5 through to airport security has totally let you down. Far better use your resources in preventing the nutters getting anywhere near the jet, than the highly dangerous step of placing firearms onboard.
The fundamental question is, are firearms in the aircraft a greater danger than the perceived threat from terrorists? I believe they are, mainly for the reason that I suspect that the ‘threat’ has been hugely exaggerated for purely political reasons. There clearly is a level of threat, but I think it is far lower than President B. Liar would like to admit.

Go to the NATS AIS website at http://www.ais.org.uk (you need to register, but it is free). Once you are registered click through the following links : Publications/UKAIP/The UK AIP Package/UKAIP/UKAIP/Aerodrome Data/Aerodromes Specific/Glasgow and all the CAA GLA charts are there. Arrivals are STARs, departures are SIDs.
In practise, on arrival, once past LANAK (126 Radial from the GOW at 20 DME) or even MARGO if things are quiet, you are radar vectored direct to the runway in use…..and one advantage of flying at 0200 is you tend to be cleared direct to an 8 mile final from the point you enter UK airspace!

And speaking of Cosford and nostalgia and Comets, a few from Friday.

Oh Rats !
Rats indeed, and nice pics. Both inside on Friday afternoon…b*gger!
But for multiples, the Dakotas were more impressive.
you want to hear two of them (DC6s) doing a ‘synchro pair’ display routine! Does anybody have any pictures of this happening…
Yes…
Has anyone found some colour pics of either the Athena T Mk 1 or T Mk 2 or the Ashton?
The Ashton fuselage at Newark in December 2004.
