Also try the Gatwick Aviation Museum. http://www.gatwick-aviation-museum.co.uk/ (located just north of the 08 threshold)

Out of curiosity, I’ve just asked Cosford about the restoration centre. The answer is : pre-booked tours on Friday afternoons only, give them advance notice of proposed dates.

Kurmitz, we all sound like our Dads when we get older – “Whats with all this dance music crap, nothing like the Ramones and the Sex Pistols when I was a lad”, I am embarrassed to hear myself saying (and just imagine what my Dad had to say about the Pistols!)
Seriously though, the standard of English, from a few UK teenagers from the txt generation on this board, is dismal. Bear in mind that many people who use this board probably don’t speak English as their first language – if I (a native English speaker) find the posts incomprehensible, try and imagine how they appear to foreigners.
You may think it is not important, but in aviation (and any profession for that matter) the ability to communicate is thought to be quite important – if you cannot write coherent sentences in your native language, your chances of employment are pretty remote.

Totally agree with Kev – Cosford is a magnificent collection, in my view the highlight being the Research & Development collection which ranges from a Meteor prototype, through TSR2, to FBW Jaguar.
Two warnings though. Several aircraft (Meteor & SR53 included) are listed as being in the static park at RIAT, so may not be present. Also some exhibits (Me262 & others) are being transferred to Hendon as part of the Milestones of Flight reshuffle. I should check in advance if there is anything you particularly want to see.

Loganair attempted to operate the Shorts 360 into Barra in 1994, but it was not a success. Anyone interested in Barra should get “Times Subject To Tide” by Roy Calderwood, published by Kea Publishing (14 Flures Crescent, Erskine, Renfrewshire, PA18 7DJ) – a fine little paperback, costs £9.95.

Correct – how do make a small fortune in aviation? Start with a large one.

With the alleged problems for the NZ restored P40, will the NZ restored La-9 run into similar difficulties? Is it NZ or UK registered?

Especially those carrying pieces of ironmongery more suitable for decorating – and yes, there appeared to be a real safety issue with the number of unsupervised people airside.

Correct – thank you Damien for having the consideration to move.
As an aside, I was somewhat disturbed to finally attend a display featuring an aircraft I have actually flown (Bulldog XX619 – indeed my first flight EVER was in that machine, Jan 1976, ‘B’ of Yorkshire UAS) – all part of the ageing process!

Right, sorry, starboard side seemed to offer the best view (GPU obstructing the view slightly on the left side). The pair in the dayglo tabards were also right side, forward of the Shack obstructing the only possible view with all engines running from that side. One of them then had a loud verbal exchange with a frustrated prole from behind the barrier.

Great pix, fantastic show Saturday – luckily we departed slightly early to avoid the queues and missed the accident, but shocking nonetheless.
I totally agree about the number of “press” airside. We particularly enjoyed stepladder men & women (a team of three lugging B&Qs finest around and scaling it at every opportunity despite having unfettered access to the aircraft). Also especial thanks to the pair who positioned themselves and their dayglo jackets in front of the Shackleton when it did its ground run – thank you gentlemen, how very considerate.

Si, Madrid – more like 25mins from AGP – how time flies when you are having a good time!

On the subject of the Red Arrows, one of the stupidest (and strangely impressive) pieces of display flying was at an OFMC organised display at Duxford in the mid 90s. After the final overhead break, one aircraft overflew the crowd, at the extreme western end of the crowd line at about 50ft and 300(ish) kts. Mistake or intentional I don’t know, but it certainly shut the crowd up – one rule for the Arrows and one for everyone else?
