Sea Vixen…..pleeeease!
Ivor Stretch…..you must be kidding!
Surely he was the inventor of the bungee launch…..
Well, given that the evening displays provided the almost nil wind conditions required for the Edwardians to fly, it doesn’t bode well for seeing them so often in the future.
Let’s hope for the best though.
As an aside, will the Spitfire feature the IFF aerials stretched between the fuselage roundel and the tailplane leading edge…I seem to remember they were present when she first appeared at OW after her first restoration. Maybe they might present a health and safety hazard nowadays!
A remarkable life, well lived. We are so fortunate to have his books to remember him by, and his life story on film.
The oldest and boldest of them all,
RIP

Browsing these pictures gives me a faint sense of foreboding. Hope I’m wrong.
Those “fishbone” clouds would appear to be cirrus wave clouds. The Perlan Project glider reached 50, 000ft using wave lift.
I don’t think the makers of stone tablets stored personal details for their own nefarious activities !
I subscribe to both AM and FP and have complete collections of both, bar a couple of issues. They’ve both been through good and bad patches, but I find them different enough to continue with both. I also applaud Ben Dunnell for his current editorship, particularly enjoying the interviews with display pilots. His dad John was my photographic inspiration when he used to sell big monochrome prints from a table stall at Old Warden . Go Dunnells!
What a beauty. Looking forward to a sunset formation pair with the Spartan Executive.
Bulk order for Duraglit expected.
Ladi Marmol was also a renowned member of the London Gliding Club at Dunstable during the 40s and 50s. He imported a Zlin Krajanek which he would fly inverted on aerotow, as well as soaring the ridge inverted…and thermalling inverted!! He also established a soaring duration record in 1947 of 33 hours, guided overnight by the headlights of cars parked on top of the Downs.

Displaying at Old Warden, 1970s.
Ahhh…..”B” flight of 849 Sqdn…hence the fin decoration. I’m grizzled enough to remember 849 operating Skyraiders at Culdrose, and sitting in the back seat of one of 831’s Avengers, taxying across the airfield at an Air Day. Lots of interesting stuff around in those days.
