Yes it is, and so is SIA which owns a big chunk of Virgin Atlantic. Personally, I can’t help thinking Virgin are a likely member in the not too distant future, especially if (God Forbid!!!) United go belly up.
Is it also likely that if United went under American could be enticed into the alliance, with consequences on OneWorld?

Sadly it was shortly after taking off from Orlando. They sang and drunk themselves to sleep though b4 we landed at Bangor for fuel.

However, given that France and lots of other Euro countries also dish out subsidies, I don’t think any action is likely unfortunately.
Could it be argued that the european governments are also subsidising many of the USA airlines through Airbus?
Don’t get me wrong, I do not believe the Airbus funding to be any less legitimate than the way Boeing is funded and it is certainly a lot more transparent, but I think this is an interesting question.

Love the pic.
The return flight from Acapulco was actually on Novair’s last day flying, and the flight crew reckoned probably its last flight to touch down.
The big thing I remember was the demoralised crew not caring what the pax did as long as it was not dangerous (they thought they were too old to find similar employment elsewhere, though ime the more mature flight crews tend to offer better service). This resulted in some rather drunk pax taking over the announcement system for a sing along).

Great – I’m going to order it today.
Thanks for all your help guys.

Am I reading this right in thinking big downloads will be vital (I don’t have broadband 🙁 )?

Just saw an impression of the new Aeroflot livery, looks like it’ll be great if it happens.
Don’t times change???

Perhaps it was G-BJZD which was c/n 46970.
Incidentally Novair had a very early D/C 10, one of the first five built i think.
Seems so. According to the current Airliner World, this was G-GCAL (c/n 45601), the subject of the article and the second one built.

well to be fair, the magazines main catchment area is the UK, and as i’m sure a lot of us started off as kids the only flights we took were off charter airlines – it brings accross an interest and a cover article to attract first time buyers
Might it be true to go one further and suggest that thers is a strong leaning towards the charter airlines in Britain because these are, for many many people, the only ones with which they ever fly?
Distances are shorter in Britain than in the USA, and rail and road become much more viable alternatives than across the pond between major cities.
Although business and vfr travel across Europe is mushrooming, I suspect that the only european journey for the majority of Brits is the annual package holiday. I don’t have any figures to prove / disprove this though.
I would expect the net result of this to be that Britannia, Thomas Cook, MyTravel, Monarch, Air 2000 and the others are most Brits’ only exposure to airlines.
At the same time it is likely that easyJet, RyanAir and their low cost family are changing this fairly quickly.
Any thoughts / opinions?

Don’t really like it, but I guess it’s reality. A case of the low costs taking a leaf from the charter airlines’ books?
Personally I often find that the ‘full service’ airlines are now no more expensive than the low cost airlines, especially after all the compulsory extras have been factored in, at least here in Britain. Take RyanAir’s example of charging for accepting credit and debit cards when these are the only ways in which they will accept payment.

Leeds-Bradford South, aka Heathrow? 😉

But I don’t want to compare JetBlue and Rynaair and JetBlue , it would be insulting for the US operator.
Agreed on all counts.
There is nothing wrong at all with the smaller airport strategy – it also helps the airline’s on-time performance due to less congestion, and makes the check in simpler for customers.
IMHO Ryanair are, however, misleading customers with their naming of airports. To the unitiated thers is no distinction between Frankfurt Hahn or Oslo Torp and London Heathrow, and they can easily arrive at one of the former expecting it to be the main airport for a major city.

Matthew, I flew with MyTravel at the start of last month (LGW-BGY and back, A320) and have to say that despite the nice livery it was the worst flying experience that I have ever had.
