on a lot of my threads there are 1 post after and then they go my flight report no one replyed people on here i dont like and i prefer to post elsewhere also earlier in the year the distrubtive behaviour ad chaos has aclumulated into my decision.
P.S i will be using other forums and will be in contact with people off forum who ive got emails of my email is chris69x@hotmail.com if you would like to contact me.

Hmmm, you seem to have gone straight to the forum that is run by one of the alleged main sources of the disruptive behaviour that you are going on about. I’d like to say I’ll miss you but I can’t say that about anyone who consistently tells others on the forum to F*** off etc.

Close the door on your way out. I’d love to see you come back as long as your attitude to others has changed – you actually posted some decent points but hid it well with the attitude.

I would like to point out that someone else who had consistent arguments with others on the forum (and by no means all his fault) came back, made a fresh start and is imho now a quality contributor (imho) who is not ignored at all. Try it.

Just my 2c

In general the A320 is (imho) a much nicer aircraft than the 737 to fly on and is more on a par with the 757 except for the smaller windows.

However, I flew with MYT last year (G-YLBM if my memory serves correctly) and thought it was possibly the worst trip I have done, partly because I’m 6’5″ tall and the seat pitch isn’t too great, and partly because of the MYT rules, like refusing me a window seat because I had a vegetarian meal (apparently all special meal orders are prebooked starting from the middle seats).

Many other people seem to like MYT though, so maybe I was just unlucky on the day. They certainly have one of the more attractive colour schemes around. Hope you have a better experience than I did.

I’m banned from RyanAir after I wrote a letter of complaint in 2002. Is this a great loss?

MOL strikes me as an odious, uncouth little oik.

I know that people have died and i am sorry, but this is also a disaster for Paris, it was short listed for the olympics, but if they can’t make a roof that stays up well … you know what i mean.

Rubbish!

This could have happened anywhere. Remember the delays opening that millennium bridge in London? You can’t blame Paris or France for this, especially not before the causes are known.

This is a dreadful incident, and my sympathies go to all of those affected.

To be honest with you I find it difficult to see NCL sustaining an EWR service, especially with the established services from MAN and GLA and the more recent one from EDI.

I know both the American flights that evening were pretty full, and that they were not able to cofirm seats for us on the later one, nor to guarantee seats together on the earlier one (this was quite important to us as this was my emigration flight). I guess it’s possible that the other pax couldn’t get onto the American flight, or maybe that they checked in before cancellation was a likelihood.

It would have been a bit ironic had we flown American as this would have been my second transatlantic flight with them. The previous one was due to a Virgin cancellation.

IMHO the immediate rebooking was a very customer-friendly move by United. As you say, hotel accommodation would have cost less if it was needed. In the event I guess they must have wished they had not rerouted everyone, but that’s how the dice rolled.

OK, so the next question is do we think United jumped the gun a little in transferring their pax to American?

The customer friendly side of me thinks they did the right thing in making sure pax were not delayed in Heathrow overnight, but that aircraft did leave on time and nearly empty. A conservative ‘back of a fag packet’ estimate says (say) 250 pax at an average fare of (say) $500 one way suggests that United lost at least $125,000 revenue by doing the customer friendly thing.

Any thoughts?

Sorry NCL Rules,

I started typing my last post before you posted, but I was typing in between training someone at work so it took over 30 mins to type. I wasn’t trying to keep this going after you posted saying things were OK.

I’m coming into this late, but as far as I can see there are two important facts here:

1. If there is an issue (and I don’t think there is), then it’s between Skylinerworld and Bigjet/NCL Rules, not the rest of us.

2. We don’t know that Skyliner posted in the guestbook. He denies it and we don’t have reason to disbelieve him. He has made posts with which people have disagreed, but afaik has always been honest.

*Even if* he did make the guest book entry, the very worst he would have done is asked to use a lot of material. Someone without good intentions would simply have ripped off the site without asking.

I think people need to back off Skyliner. We have no incriminating evidence, and I feel that there is a bit of a witch hunt developing on the forum.

I also think that the original post should have been an e-mail or pm, not a public venting which is what it looks like we have here.

In a nutshell, I don’t think this thread is helpful to the forum or anyone on it and is just stirring up some unnecessary hostility. Let’s all cool down.

Flew RyanAir once. They were appalling – 2 hrs late, refused to check in my baggage until 2 hours late, surly flight crew. I wrote to complain and got a letter back ‘suggesting’ I didn’t fly with them again. I happily took their suggestion.

Thanks for your help so far guys.

Agreed: digital zoom = poor idea. But with an 8MP camera could I crop away some to leave (say) the most central 5M pixels and simulate a longer zoom in this way? Hope you see what I mean?

My worry isn’t so much about dropping the camera any distance, you are right in saying that that would be seriously bad for any camera. It’s more about (for example) the camera swinging against the rock while I am climbing, or me taking a fall with it in my pack and swinging against the rock / ice. I’m not sure whether the plastic body of the SLRs would be much more likely to crack.

I quite like the smaller size of the other option (the Nikon 8700), but that’s very much a ‘nice-to-have’ rather than a primary consideration.

The shutter lag is obviously a very important consideration indeed though. Moving aircraft are not exactly slow. I’m thinking my best bet is to try the 8700 and test the shutter lag as that might rule it out immediately.

Thanks again, all help highly appreciated. BTW, if WhiskeyDelta reads this do you have any focal length advice for CMH and/or CVG as these will be my local airports within a month?

I have always been a bit interested since I was a kid, but it got rekindled when I met my (now) wife and then became a transatlantic f/f.

I think a big bit of this rekindling was when I was waiting at Gatwick for the first time she came to Britain and went up to the terrace to watch for a landing DL MD-11. Her flight was 2.5 hrs late (it was DL, remember 😉 ) and I spent a really enjoyable three hours just watching things happen.

I’m hoping to eventually move into the airline industry – I have lots of revenue/yield management from my previous work in the passenger rail sector, and the airline industry is probably the nearset equivalent in the USA as well as being such a fascinating one.

Thanks, I hear what you say and agree. If I didn’t want it for mountaineering use too then I would automatically go for the SLR.

The only thing is that I simply cannot afford the EOS-10D, so my choice in SLRs is restricted to the budget models from Canon and Nikon which have plastic bodies. I might be a little nervous about whether these would survive a fall on them and weight is another consideration.

The non-SLR that I have seen is a little cheaper and goes out to 280mm (optical, 35mm equiv) and has a fairly compact alloy body. I am tempted toward this one for these reasons.

The big question is whether this maximum focal length is likely to be too big a handicap for airliner use, which is where I am looking for a bit of experience from others. Also, at 8MP should I find some compensation for reduced quality from the digital zoom or have more scope to crop an image – I agree, 8MP is not normally necessary for the use that I have in mind unless it will help compensate for the maximum focal length?

Thanks in advance
