It does, I agree, but this is an optical illusion caused by the larger tail on the 737NG – proportionally the 737-700 is taller compared to its length.

2DEF are very good seats indeed. Probably the best reservable ones (I don’t think you can reserve the exit rows)

This girl is guilty of plain stupidity.

However, she would have got the point when the airline refused to carry her (which it most certainly would have done) and she had to splash out for another ticket (this would probably have cost her a fortune as she may well have needed to travel the same day if she was going home to renew her 90-day visa waiver). If the police wanted to make sure this happened all they needed to do was hold her overnight.

I do not believe that this stupid girl actually had any maliscious intent when she said this “funny” thing – it is more likely that she expected the guard to laugh with her. Because of this, I do not believe that a court appearance and a lengthy wait in jail for that appearance is warranted – it just seems to me that the punishment is way out of proportion to the crime.

    Just my 2p.

IMHO most of the aircraft listed are not true regional jets – capacity is not the only issue here. I do not think the 717, A318, Tu134 and the F28/F70/F100 are even in the reckoning.

Even the CRJ200 is suited more to thin routes between medium – large airports that have a long enough runway for it.

A good measure (IMO) is whether the aircraft can get into LCY, and this limits the choice to the ARJ/BAe146 and the ERJ135 with an extra option (plus the 328Jet?). The Embraer 170 will have this capability too, I believe.

Wasn’t it something to do with still being able to see a runway when on a steep banking turn to line up for landing, in the days before ILS was standard?

    We’re talking here and now.

Here and now Airbus are selling more aircraft than Boeing, which makes them currently the largest commercial aircraft builder, in my book.

    No

Then they’re not the worlds largest.

    Period

By the same reckoning Aeroflot are probably still the largest airline in the world because of the number of flights they have operated.

And Pan Am, TWA and Eastern must still be pretty big carriers.

Here’s the Guardian’s opinion of how to save money.

    http://www.guardian.co.uk/airlines/story/0,1371,798452,00.html

I have also noticed that the airlines often put extra cheaoper seats on their flights exactly 3 months and again exactly 6 weeks before departure date.

    Hope this helps.

Like people have already said, don’t take a.net too seriously – a lot of people there represent their opinions and wish lists as fact

If you believe everything you read there, UAL, AA, US Air, Swiss, Ryanair and Airbus will all be folding this year.

Hi Greekdude, good to see you again.

I believe the A319s and A320s (?) were delivered in grey. Also, do we include the UE CRJs?

    They rebranded the airline.

That’s right – but they needed to take more drastic steps than United because of the hostile press campaign that followed the Everglades crash. Basically it was reported (wrongly, if my memory serves me right) that the crash was due to poor operating and maintenance at ValuJet.

United received none of this, with few people blaming them for 9/11, but the last moments of that dark grey 767 have stuck in many minds.

Agreed – but there are some stupid old grannies around 🙂

However and more importantly, if people associate the c/s with the tragedy, this is still a negative thing even though they don’t think they will die if they fly UA..

Hi, I agree with all the comments about the current United scheme being nice – it’s one of my favourites too.

There are two big problems with it though. Firstly the cost, about which plenty has been said already.

A second consideration (IIRC) is that many people around the world sadly associate these colours with a 767 being flown into the south tower on live TV, seen by a huge proportion of the world. This too may be a stronger reason than one might initially think.

I used to be on the revenue management team for a major train operator, one of the most respected in Britain at the time. Unfortunately this operator was blighted by two serious accidents, neither of which was in any way its fault, and a thing that came through repeatedly in market research afterward was that the operator’s distinctive c/s was now heavily associated with the news pictures of seriously wrecked trains.

Another obvious example (aviation this time) of this phenomenon is Valujet.

    Any thoughts?
    Mike
