Confirm that the IWM are saying that gates will open at 0800 hrs.
What is the latest on the move? Anybody any piccies?
Great days on No. 36 Squadron with Hastings & then formation of No. 48 Squadron with Hercules for the Far East. Trips around the world, Iceland, Newfoundland, Jamaica, Bermuda, Cayman Is., Nassau, Norway, Kenya, Libya, Aden etc etc. Then it was back to the delights of Bath’s curry shops & Courage Bitter at 1/9d a pint!
Of course in our hangar was the RAFM Collection including Spitfire P7350 which had been donated to Colerne by a local scrappy.
The Norfolk Record Office did have a file listing all the incidents occuring in the county during the war, probably kept by the Royal Observer Corps. I don’t know whether it escaped their fire.
Biggin Hill?
How is the move progressing? Anybody have recent photographs?
When the late Spencer Flack had his accident in his Sea Fury he maintained his hard hat saved his life. Shortly after, all the BBMF pilots started to wear hard hats.
As told from his hospital bed. “Hot day, rolled my flying suit sleeves up and took off. In transit oil pressure begun to drop, went for precautionary landing at Waddington. Dropped the gear and at that moment the engine failed. Selected the gear up as I was going to land short. Gear had not fully retracted when I hit the potato field. Aircraft on fire, flames in the cockpit, canopy would not open. Unstrapped and using my head tried to break the canopy. (This is with a bad fracture to the leg) Just about to give up when my head broke through into fresh air. Rolled clear of the aircraft as it continued to burn. My hard hat saved my life.”
Just to add to the excitement he was nearly run over by the fire engine coming to the incident. The drive didn’t see him laying amongst the potato plants. In addition to the fractured leg he had burns to face and arms.
The message is clear, wear the gear!

Thats only scratching the surface because those guys are backed up by 100’s of other guys & gals.
Bring a friend. The larger the gate, the larger the revenue which would hopefully mean more aircraft.
e-mail the museum to persuade them to let their aircraft see the light of day at Legends. They have been out before it can happen again with your help.
Politics and money rules!
You can make a difference!
One swallow doesn’t make a summer. How about the rest of the team at TFC?
I bet there are some unhappy bunnies there after reading your posts!
Yes they do read them, ask Digby.
The reason for the “No” to pyros at Duxford was during a show some years back the P-63 was in a scenario with a tank which was firing its gun. Something went wrong & the guys in the tank received serious burns from the pyros they were using.
Don’t forget us guys down under.

Looking in at 2 hangar bentwing, is anything going to be flying? They all look like they are being restored, the P-47 seems to be taking its time!
