Good news to hear she is back under her rightful ownership. I cannot imagine that any Chipmunk owners are sad enough to buy any stolen parts, therfore the thieves should not profit. But I wonder?

O.K. I’ve read all your interesting comments. My comments are very simple. I prefer to leave things as they are. However it might be interesting if the following rules are adhered to:

    1. Only unknown British and Commonwealth actors to feature in it
    2. Hollywood has absolutely no involvement at all
    3. Gibson’s Dog was part of the story and should be included. The events took place in 1943 – long before all this political correctness crap emerged – therefore he keeps his name. Or should we change the entire story because it’s not acceptable to drop bombs anymore?

Let’s just bear in mind that if it wasn’t for the charachters that carried out these unsavoury deeds, we wouldn’t have a world to be politically correct in. Would we?

If these simple points are ignored the result may well and probably will be not worthy.

P.S. How do I get this thread to Sir David??

    Regards
    To you all

    Concorde Returning to the Air

I blame BA and Air France for this situation. Small mindedness and eliteism. As far as I know, and I will stand corrected if anyone knows differently, all BA Concordes that are in museums, rotting on airfields (or barges) actually still belong to BA. When grounded their life blood was removed along with their black boxes. I still hope that one will get in the air again, but the biggest problem is that of design authority. The cost of supporting this was, supossedly one of the reasons for grounding her. Design authority was supported by Airbus. And Airbus have now closed this down. She will never leave the ground without it.

    We Remember

I read this every day and feel it is very informative as well as moving. It’s just a pity that the Luftwaffe losses quoted are claimed and not actual. September 7th’s total losses, including those destroyed by AA are in fact 35, not 74.

    Chipmunk WK609

I have attached an image of Chipmunk WK609 ‘Lima’ taken at Filton ( No 3 AEF) in September 1970. At that time I was a thirteen year old Air Cadet and experienced not only my first flight in a Chipmunk (WK609), but my first flight! Between 1970 and 1973 I was lucky enough to fly many times in Chipmunks, including WK609, and remember well my first aerobatics over the river Severn just up river from the Severn Bridge. After leaving service she was sold at a Phillips auction on 27th February 1997 and is now G-BXDN and is based at Wycombe Air Park.

These two were photo’d on the 18/4/90. Just visible on the left edge of photo is NH799.

Looks to me like a Tempest

You refer to the New (1936) Filton House. Such a grand building. I am afraid it is derelict and has been for some years. Its an eye sore and in such a prominent place. As I said, our heritage counts for little. There is word it will be developed into apartments or something. It is at the top of Filton Hill. The late hangars were at the bottom of the hill on the North side of the main runway and had been the property of Rolls Royce.

Yes its a shame the hanger was lost. However, we must remember that in 1968 there was no real interest in historic aircraft. And ex WW2 airfields were going two a penny. Furthermore, we have the makers of the Battle of Britain film to thank for what we have today.
On the subject of Belfast Truss hangers I have to say I am very saddened to say that three three bay hangers – built by German POWs during the Great War – were wantonly demolished a few years ago on the edge of Filton airfield to make way for a new Royal Mail sorting depot. Why were these not dismantled and reassembled somwhere else. Watch this space…because Bovis Homes have recently bought 150 acres of what remains of Filton airfield and another three bay Belfast Truss hanger’s future is in the balance. Will this be lost too? Just remember. A listed building is only listed if you are not prepared to pay the feeble fine for demolishing it. Sorry to go on about this but I just hate to see our heritage dissappear in the name of progress.

    Clive…

Just thought I would post this pic of NX611. It is seen in the background of some Bristol University Air Squadron Chipmunks taken at Filton airfield at the 1964 Airshow. I believe Neil Williams flew it into the show. I did not take the photograph but was at the airshow aged eight.
