I take that as a “yes”. (BTW how can one possibly take seriously people who’s level of maturity is so low that they resort to name-calling anytime someone questions them or anything Russian? If they want to be taken seriously they should act like it.)

I am glad you accepted “the offer”:D
As for my level of maturity, you’ll hardly find out unless we speak face to face (which will hardly occur). It’s not my intention to prove anything to anybody, but to learn something useful from the portion of the people who are posting here and are knowledgeable enough (and always bring some new/useful piece of info). But every now and then useful discussions are being interrupted by some posters who have a dire need keep bashing on something that is not a product of their own country.
If there is a Russian fanboy claiming that PAK-FA is the creation of God himself and is able land on an American CVN undetected and put a Russian flag on it and then run away (:D I exaggerated a bit but you understand the context) you as a reasonable person will dismiss that claim as absurd and you won’t engage in any further conversation. Or your level of maturity is not that high enough and you can’t resist to engage into useless flame war?

I am one of those who would like to take you to the kindergarten, and let you have some fun there as you obviously take this forum as one (big kindergarten).

    @dionis,

right now you are exaggerating. bgnewf is right, let’s wait and see. Nobody is doubting the skills of the scientist who are engaged in this project or claiming that they are idiots. With all the effort put in it, it should be a damn good plane. We can’t compare it to the Raptor, nor we will be able for the next 20+ years, as in reality we don’t know enough about the Raptor and even we know much much less about the PAK-FA. It’s very childish to compare them (at least for now).

Well, Russia is still such a closed society that it won’t even release a simple drawing let alone a picture of the forth coming test models. So, its really hard to even speculate to the most rudimentary elements of the design……….

Scooter, can you define a closed society?

Before the breakdown of the SU, how many military projects were known to the public? And as ante_climax said it not publicizing their products was more of a benefit to the Russians (ie. exaggerated capabilities of the Foxbat and even earlier of the the Fishbed).
In the 1990s military industry of Russia didn’t open itself completely to the foreigners primarily because of the changes in politics but because they needed to do that in order to survive. This time the story is different: the country has the money (dunno how much but certainly much more than they had 10 or 15 years ago) and the will to invest in this project. This is something completely new for the Russians (going into the field that they haven’t mastered yet – stealth) and you know very well that even one official drawing (or photograph, whatever) can tell enough to the experts.

Russian air defence systems for Iran

    Is this for real now?

Russian air defence systems for Iran

    Vladimir Radyuhin

MOSCOW: Russia has begun deliveries of its most potent air defence systems to Iran, a Russian news agency reported.

Russia is currently fulfilling a contract to deliver S-300 air defence systems to Iran, RIA news agency reported quoting confidential sources in the Russian Defence Ministry.

The move has rattled Israel, which has immediately dispatched a senior Defence Ministry official to Russia to thwart the sale.

Moscow earlier met its obligations on supplying Tor-M1 systems to Iran and is currently implementing a contract to deliver S-300 systems, RIA said. Russia supplied 29 Tor-M1 short-range air-defence complexes to Iran a year ago under a $1.4-billion contract.

The S-300 is a long-range air defence system. Earlier defence sources said Moscow was planning to sell Iran five batteries of 300PMU-1 launchers at a price of $800 million. A typical S-300 battery contains 48 missiles on 12 mobile launchers. The S-300PMU can intercept missiles and aircraft from more than 120 km away.

The powerful combination of advanced short-range and long-range air defence systems will enable Iran to counter any Israeli or U.S. attacks. Israeli Defence Ministry official Amos Gilad arrived in Moscow on Wednesday to try and persuade the Russians to cancel the deal on the grounds that it could upset the balance of power in West Asia. Russia has rejected the Israeli protest.

Russia’s military and technical cooperation with Iran has a positive impact on stability in this region,” deputy head of Russia’s Federal Military Technical Cooperation Service Alexander Fomin told RIA.

We have developed, are developing and will continue to develop this cooperation further. The region’s security to a large extent depends on this, he added.

In another move that strengthens Russia’s influence in West Asia, Moscow offered to give Lebanon as a gift 10 MiG-29 fighter jets. U.S. media described the offer as a slap to the U.S., which has refused to provide Lebanon with modern warplanes that could threaten Israel.

Lebanon’s Defence Minister Elias Murr said the unexpected offer made his trip to Moscow this week “the most important visit I have made since my appointment as Minister of Defence.

I expected that you (or somebody else) were going to pull out something like this.

I don’t think that Syria will pull out something like that again (well that’s just my opinion). As we all know most of the Arab world considered that act as betrayal of the current president’s father.

They may and will certainly remain there, but will they try to do something “more serious” is a very difficult to predict.

Lebanon should apply for protectorate status from some Arab League or something tbf. I hate to see the sovereignty of the country violated by its neighbours and Hezbollah ruling the streets. Get this to work and they can have Saudi EFs patrolling their borders 😎

If you would know the ethnic composition of the Lebanese you would understand that they would never allow any of the neighboring countries to take control over their airspace.
And there is no way that Saudi birds could patrol over Lebanon as there is no direct connection of the two countries.

No. Lebanon will be integrated by Syria some day. Just delayed by an attempt to negotiate the return of the Golan first. 😉

Very strong words here Sens. I don’t think that will ever happen. If Syrians try to do something more serious there might be a bloodshed.

You two really seem like out of touch sometimes, or paid by the LM to glorify their baby.
No government will ever officially say that they were ripped off, unless they definitely choose to get out of the program.

So far this looks as the best post on this thread. And the most serious one:D

I mean the entire idea of the Raptor already being obsolete seems a bit absurd. Until somebody could at least partially prove those claims any discussion seems pointless…

I respectfully disagree. You can’t seperate the two things. The rate of violence speaks to discipline and motivation problems. It also speaks to problems within the chain of command. All of these things when looked at wholistically sertainly paint a picture of an organization that still has a long way to go before they can reach the current state of the art.

You have summed up in your previous post what is happening to the Russian Navy and what they are going through. And that is what I could agree on – they still have a long way to go in order to overcome the problems they are currently experiencing. They went thru hell in 1990’s and it’s not an easy thing to come back to the level they’ve been on just before the break-up of the SU. Entire society was suffering from the change and not only the armed forces and I think that you know that.
It’s not an easy thing to claim something what is based on only one evidence or by looking at only one side of the coin. Multiple sources should be gathered and in depth analysis should be made and conclusion(s) should be drawn from them. And then again it can’t be considered as definite if not confirmed by at least few other researches.
To make it short: it wouldn’t be appropriate to judge upon sheer numbers and stats (they can help, they can help a lot… but often they can not explain every phenomena completely) and other factors (historical, sociological, etc) should be looked upon in order to get clearer picture of an event.
