    Last time Minister of Defense spoke on that matter he said that Montenegro will retain only rotary aircraft in its inventory. You are right PII, at some point it was announced that all remaining G-4s should be transferred to Serbia in exchange for something (can’t remember what exactly) but this never occurred due to politics.

    I am afraid that Montenegro will completely lose its fixed wing aircraft capability as soon as remaining G-4s are sold or transferred. I am saying capability as there are still pilots who flew and were qualified on various types of jets in ex Yugoslav inventory (including MiGs). The budget for the armed forces is waaaay too small to allow any changes (ie. reactivating G-4s). Minister of Defense is a guy who doesn’t have a clue about military or anything related to that term, so he’s not touched by the fate of these jets. At the same time he’s the guy who said that Montenegro doesn’t require sophisticated weaponry, be it SAMs, aircraft, all kinds of armoured vehicles, even navy as a whole:eek:

    There were talks of buying two Mi-17s and even one Ka-32 (mainly for firefighting), but due to budgetary constraints this has never materialized.

    So, as long as the same guy is in the cabinet, and as long as his boss rules the country (for last 22 years), there are little to no chances that we will see any fast jet with Montenegrin markings over Podgorica.

    Well, the primary mission of Russian Mistrals shouldn’t be an ASW mission, but these ships should rather be used as supportive tools for naval infantry, thus packing a flight or two of recce and attack helicopters. The Ka-27 can do that job (ASW) just fine till its replacement is gonna be ready.

    Well, the article is not specific of what will be cut…

    Anybody knows what would be the next cut in the RAF after Harriers and Nimrods are already out?

    You know to be pain in the… well, you know the place/spot I’m speaking about…

    Kapedani, don’t pretend you care of the state of Serbia’s armed forces. If somebody’s unbiased and straightforward here it’s ink, and yet you’re trying to pull him into one of your flame wars.

    I’m sure you can read and understand fluently everything written here, and yet you missed his post where he said that entire story has been made up.

    Maybe Serbia could pool with other Balkan nations to purchase a squadron or three of Mig-35s. Ownership could be rotated on a daily basis: Serbia has an Air Force Mondays and Thursdays.

    As of now, or in the near future this won’t happen. In Balkans you can’t find three men who would agree on most of the things and not three countries… I dare to say even 2 men/countries would be mission impossible:D

    Well, this is a reply with much delay, but i don’t always read all topics…

    In Turkey they have F16 female pilots too.

    In Greece, women are having a hard time inside HAF’s pilot school. But i am sure that it is only a matter of time, before a political order arrives from above forcing HAF to boost women.

    Till now , to my knowledge, there is 1 female fighter pilot, in RF4, who aspires to go to F16s one day:

    Women in HAF are about 10%, but as flying personnel, well, not many. In summer’s flying personnel graduation class, there were 45 men, 1 woman. There were also some cases of daughters of HAF pilots that made it in HAF’s school, but were subsequently “cut off”.

    Part of the problem is also the way that one ends up in HAF. One must compete in pan-hellenic exams, where he must have almost perfect grades in subjects like physics, maths or chemistry. Then there are those that had another faculty as 1st choice, their grades weren’t enough and had HAF as 2nd choice. These usually have a hard time to keep going (male of females). I think that this system should change, to allow less good students to get in HAF, if they really want to fly. The problem is that once in HAF, you have then to pass HAF’s internal selection and what you did in the exams won’t cut it anymore. And for some reason, not many ladies manage to come out of HAF as pilots. They have much better success percentages as engineers, traffic controllers, etc. To be honest i don’t think though that the candidates are many either, because in the past 20 years alone there must be over 100 pilots dead in HAF, so a female’s preservation of the species instict, should push her away from wanting to become pilot.

    Anyway, you can call me whatever you like, but nature has made some differences. Male pilots don’t get to abbandon flying for almost a year because of pregnancy. If they are sent for readyness on an island, they surely won’t have “one of those days”, that may give them trouble to go out there and start pulling Gs.

    Whoever proposed upgrades of existing Fulcrums should know that there are only 4 left (including one UB). 3 of these have been overhauled (including one UB) recently while the fourth was left waiting for funds (or was intentionally left for spare parts).

    ATM, the trainer is a no go. There are still G-4’s with decent flying hours in them, especially those transferred from Montenegro. There were plans of upgrading them to G-4M standard but AFAIK that didn’t materialize. New Lasta should become a new basic trainer.

    Now, back to reality:(

    Now that air superiority has been gained, might attack helicopters and gunships, such as AC-130s, be brought into the mix? I figure they would provide better pin-point strike capability, as well as the ability to loiter for longer periods as battlefield conditions unfolded.

    Why would you put helicopters at risk with so many manpads around:confused:
    The AC-130 might be a next step, but IMHO, for attack choppers it’s still too early to step in.

    Does anybody have info about Libyan air defense installations?

    How many SAM sites have been hit?

    And how many SAM sites still represent a threat to the Coalition/NATO jets?

    You are absolutely right. I haven’t seen that by now.

    TooCool_12f, I’m not trying to play an almighty mod here:p but it would be fair if you would take that discussion to the General Discussion Thread, as this one has been pretty much on the course for most of the time:) (do I get banned now by mods:confused::D)

    I mean changing the antenna for a PESA will much improve the radar performance.

    It is not neccesary to equip them with Irbis, but something like a Bars will be great.

    We are speaking of only 12 planes here, Rodolfo. Not more. It would be costly to develop something for such a small amount of planes. They are an interim solution for both VVS and the Knaapo. For VVS to make up the numbers and get used faster to Su-35’s avionics suite and for the Knaapo to keep production line open till the 35 ends state trials.

    That’s correct. Remaining airframes don’t have so many flying hours in them to justify the cost of upgrading them to the 35 standard. It would be more cost effective to order more 35’s instead.

    And now we got the SM3, which is a cheaper upgrade solution with some N-001V~ radar and AL-31FM1 engines?

    If everything goes as planned with the Su-35, those SM3 should be the last batch of “conventional Flankers” to (re)enter VVS. There shouldn’t be any more upgrades of basic Flankers to SM or SM3 standard.

    True. I was thinking the same when I was writing previous post ๐Ÿ™‚ But when the F-15 was designed nobody was thinking “multirole” that much. Today “multirole” comes as a must for most of the air forces around globe.

    I know these are war machines but sometimes IMHO designers/engineers overreact when they want to make flying perpetuum mobile. Kind of you want to have a vehicle that can beat Formula 1 car on the track and later beat Land Rover Defender or Mercedes Benz G class off the road.
