    2. Why not take the wings off and fly it in a cargo aircraft? (how wide is an il-76?)

without going back to page one of the thread, how do we know that it was built at a facility where there was an airport nearby? look at the A380, all the different parts were built in different areas and needed to be trucked or shipped to the assembly plant.

    3. If it is an empty frame, why not sling it under a helicopter? (How much would a Hip lift?)

A sling load is dangerous for starters…. moreso then being driven on the back of a truck.
Helicopters top speed would be limited, meaning it burns more fuel going slower, more landings etc…
(still dont know how far its being transported?)
And you cant tarp it up and hide it from view while its being slung under a helicopter.

    4. Probably most perplexing… why transport it at all!?!

Why? see above, im guessing it was assembled, tested or built at a factory/ facility which didnt have an airport nearby.

Proof of concept perhaps? If its a new type, production will probably switch to the proper location… who knows?

Bus(es) are part of the escort. You can see it in this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lS9GSVGO7yo

Still crazy! :p He is even driving on the hash marks, not even in a lane.

Im still curious to see what it is as it seems much to big to be just a trainer.

It looks like the cradle has slip sidewys to the right when you compare it to the other pictures… to allow cars to pass???

Seems a bit um… dangerous allowing buses to drive under it, all you need is for someone to clip the wing and photo oppourtunity presents itself! lol

No one has mentioned that it has a bit of a tail sting?

Carrier version? Or are the engine nozzles removed?

    Geees all these comments…

    * If its a “mock up” of something… then surely it can be disassembled and transported in pieces…. this isnt a mock up.

    * Its being transported at an angle because of the wing span. The aircraft is now “narrower” so it can fit through where ever its being driven through.

    * Aircraft is at least 11/12m long…. car beside it is an A4 Audi (if im not mistaken), which is 4.5m long.

They are “at war” it just hasn’t been officially declared….that is at least crystal clear.

    Come again???

Syria is in the middle of a civil war and has not delared war on any foreign nation……
An aircraft low level/ high speed within their borders unidentified was asking for trouble.

Turkey has been caught with its pants down.

In OKB Mig it says that the Mig-19PFs were equipped with the “syrena-2”
Doesnt mention other models of Mig-19s

In the Mig-21 section it says the “late model” Mig-21s were equipped with the SO-69 RWR mounted on the wings and fins…

Not sounding apathetic, but what can the American public do? Even if they were able to voice their displeasure it is not like those in power listen. I do understand this is not a political thread.

Actually it does very apathetic… this is why governments have complete control, instead of being a “government”. The public never react, never speak up, never protest, never say anything….. everyone is used to shrugging their shoulders and moving on.

There was a thread on here about this which was started a few years ago and revived a few weeks ago, but seems like its disappeared.

The USAF basically said it was “too expensive”…. It was the US ARMY that orginally wanted a replacment for the Shorts Sherpa (which is now at least 25yrs old and useless), but the USAF squashed those plans.

    World News
U.S. senators are demanding that the Air Force explain the metrics it used to estimate the lifetime cost of operating the C-27J cargo plane, which the service has proposed canceling in the Pentagon’s 2013 budget proposal.

Democrats and Republicans, primarily from states where Air National Guard units fly or are slated to fly the aircraft, questioned the Air Force’s rationale for scrapping the fleet of 21 purchased aircraft.

Thus far, the Air Force has yet to provide congressional defense committees with the metrics it used to determine that each C-27J would cost $308 million over its lifetime, which the Air Force used in its rationale to terminate the program.

Lawmakers and defense analysts have questioned the lifecycle costs, particularly because three Air Force assessments of these costs vary between $111 million and $308 million per aircraft.

Sen. Carl Levin, D-Mich., chairman of the Senate Armed Services Committee, and other members of the panel questioned Air Force Secretary Michael Donley and Chief of Staff Gen. Norton Schwartz about the varying C-27J lifecycle cost estimates during a March 20 hearing.

“There’s a big gap there that I don’t think they adequately explained at all here today,” Levin said after the hearing when asked about the $200 million gap in the estimates.

The committee will continue to look at this issue during its markup of the Pentagon’s 2013 budget proposal, he said…………….

There is NOTHING wrong with the C27, other then the fact the USAF didnt want them given to the US army

Which in any case sounds like a Tom Clancy teori/book.;)

Ah no… Dale Brown books…. his idea for a B-1B escort fighter appeared in his series of books in the 1990s. Orginally it was a B-52. Surprised no one here appears to have heard of it

Sorry but your probably wasting your time…

One brand of instruments can be fitted to a lot of aircraft.

Engine instruments are usually aircraft model specific, but the rest will and can fit just about anything.
