It takes a long time to train all relevent personel, not just pilots, but ground crew, techos, work out what support equipment is needed and where, how many spare parts to hold…. not to mention add all the part numbers to the supply system… upgrade airport facilities….Sort out the bugs with software, airframe, engines, etc….
Unlike the Super Hornet which a lot of crews were sent to the USA and the aircraft is in service already with the USN so they can learn from thier (USN) experiences.
New aircraft types are always slower to get to operational capability, especially if no one else operates the type.
Why are there English words on Iranian airplane? Even IRIAF?
Why do some countries do this, and others don’t.
Anyway, I would expect Iran not to..
Why would you expect iran not to?
Plenty of non-english speaking countries use english.
I would bet a lot of Iranians speak english… languages transends politics
Ok lets take away the silly tittle please mods!
The poster probably is 50% correct, but im guessing if its true they plan to convert the J6 into drones its for “suicide” missions to crash into US Naval ships and aircraft carriers…
The drones could be sent in as a distraction and would be basically used as “cannon fodder”. Imagine a large formation of say 100 aircraft all pilotless heading towards an enemy..
At the very least the enemy would need to expend a lot of munitions to down all 100 aircraft, all without loosing a pilot. Meanwhile the real “attack formation could come in a few mins later?
But yes it seems easier to use cruise missiles…. and just pointless to use drones….
Actually, it doesn’t, it’s clear of the ‘bulge’ that houses the wheel. I’m not saying it’s a blocker, imho, it’s a FOD screen. It fits the bill perfectly.
.
Actually it ISNT clear… and im only calling it a “blocker” because everyone else does.
How on earth can you call it a FOD screen? Perfectly?
Ok tell me how it ejects the FOD as there is no vents in that area?
It just sits there disrupting the flow of air until it lands and ground crew then crawl into the LONG intake to clear it??
That dirty area is still within the mainwheel well area, if the blocker is there then the intake must narrow a significant amount for it to be “circular” in cross section…
Going through englishrussia makes you wonder sometimes, the amount of abandonned ex equipment from the cold war era stored in hangars, out in the open or in tunnels is simply astounding.
Litterally billions of dollars decaying away… at the very least it would be worth scrap metal value to someone.
Makes you wonder why these old bases arent cleaned up? but lord knows how contaminated the sites are and how much it would cost to get rid of it all.
The roof collapse is news to me (musta missed that one!) and very sad to see it all gone to waste.
Currently there are pictures of a aircraft staic test facility somewhere… abandonned in situ. complete with an IL76 still attached to the test rig.

This one was at MAKS 2011 – I photographed it on 18 August…..
Being prepared for a museum display – rumour has it, at Zadorozhny.
Ken
Ken did you take pics of the other side??
They had pictures up on english russia 2 weeks ago… it was only painted on one side, the rudder appears to be plywood! and the windows were replaced with painted panels.
Thanks for the info guys…

I don’t think either of the shuttles visible are actual Buran production models. According to various reports, the second (unfinished) production model is at Baikonur, as are at least two full size mock-ups that were built for testing. It’s likely those are the two mock-ups.
As noted in the previous thread, the one shown at the recent airshow near Moscow was the third (unfinished) production version. That was the one that was actually planned to be used for manned missions, as #1 and #2 were both only planned to be used for unmanned testing, at least initially. The first manned flight would have been with production model #3.
Isn’t one of them due to be prepared for display and then sent to a museum now?
You mean this one? (in germany?)

One of the shuttles was seen at MAKS… one side only was painted and not restored at all!
But how many were built in total?
The two shown in the pictures are uncompleted, plus Buran? makes 3?
I said estimated 21m..
It is widly accepted, the T-50 is a tad longer and larger vs the F-22, is it not?Anyway, since the engine is 5m long, just cut the T-50 on that pic up in four equal lenght and you can get an estimated position of the Fan.
The air intake is square/ diamond shape…. it then goes past the main under carriage bulge. That part of the intake can NOT be circular in cross-section.
The internal cross-section would need to be circular befor it hits the engine.
The only place it can do this is behind the main gears, which doesnt leave much room between the actual fan face and where it transitions.
Im guessing at the earth point stencil (?) just behind the main gear leg is where it becomes circular. (next to the two black dots)
Is this real or fake?
If real, then you would not see more than 25% of the comp fans, perhaps even less.
If the pics was taken 50m away and on the senter radome instead.
Looks like the pics position is taken a little under the wings height too..
We went down this path almost a year ago when that picture surfaced.
Along with other clearly faked pictures of the intake at the time.
The IL102 has to be win the ugliest jet aircraft design award surely?
As SpudmanWP said, its in the gigantic “moderator-mandated, all-in-one, only F-35 thread allowed” encyclopedia he linked to.
I’m surprised this thread has lasted a full day without being locked by Grey Area.
I suppose he is on vacation, and took his “only one F-35 thread ever” policy with him.
Appollogies! I missed the ketchup filled thread… I looked back in the history and was wondering if I had missed something as i couldnt find it! argh!!!
Interesting video on the Mi-28 having its armoured glass being tested… with someone inside the cockpit!
12.7mm ? not sure on the calibur.
