I come from a civil aviation background and I have never seen a civilian aircraft that had the option of flashing the nav lights and all planes I have flown have only had a rotary switch to turn the lights to on or off (the rotary part dims the internal lighting).

Anything civilian pre 1960s will have flashing nav lights…

You had me wondering there Ken… specially the big windows!
But still an impressive structure, even if it is concrete!

Going totally left field here… is it possible to use noise cancelling to reduce the noise of the helicopter ? (cancelling sound with sound)

One news story said that a Pakistani “heard” the helicopter when it was far away, but the noise all but disappeared when it was overhead?

The old flashing nav lights were fitted in the days before rotating beacons.

The last time I saw (on film at least) of an aircraft with flashing nav lights was the UH-1 Huey and the orginal Herc A/b model? in all those vietnam film footage

So the Government and ADF can throw more money at big ticket options with large local development programs that ostensibly offer ‘leading edge capability’ (though I’d like someone to point out to me the capability benefits a Tiger ARH provides versus an AH-64D Apache Block III) yet in reality deliver nothing more than drawn out schedules, cost increases and capability that offers little more (if that) than the off the shelf purchases we have rejected…

That’s what SRP is all about. Stripping cash out of ADF so it can be spent on the big ticket vote winning (allegedly) programs that generate local jobs and allow politicians in power to grandstand.

There is plenty of money though, it just isn’t pulled out until out until it has to be and is instead held for ‘other’ things… Look at the sudden Largs Bay and C-17 acquistions. That’s nearly $500m in funding right there. How much better would Army trainng capability be with that money?

But it’s money ADF wasn’t going to get for years yet. All of a sudden ADF really needs something and it is pulled seemingly out of thin air…

“Do more with less” is a common phrase they use….

Yes it astounds me that hundreds of millions magically appear too.

Why then is there a lack of money at unit level?
(trying to remain on the military side of things)

there may be big money spent on big projects, but other things have been thrown by the wayside. And this isnt a dig at the present government. Its been every successive one which just wastes money on projects which go nowhere

Trouble is no one is ever taken to task…
Look at the SeaSprite fiasco… how many hundreds of millions wasted and in the end scrapped.
Anything to do with Military and government procurements in general is usually well over budget, doesnt work as advertised.
Yet nothing gets done about it.
This is despite Federal Legislation which clearly sets out how things must be procured, but those rules arent followed or the government never takes anyone to court over it.
Instead they prefer to throw even more money at it in the vein hopes itll fix the issue.
Then we all wonder why we are taxed to the hilt, the government is broke and why the rich get richer….

I know two Tigers were sent to Townsville last year for an exersize, but very little was said about how they performed and in what capacity.

Kellog Root and Brown in bed Thales? Explains a lot!!!
Glad to see more money thrown at companies with incredible shady pasts…

wow digging up a 3yr old thread which has no meaning and nothings actually happened about deploying them…. some people really must be bored.

Aussie Digger, not just night flying and flying in bad weather is the issue (there is a thing called brown out which chopper pilots must learn to deal with as well).
