Not shut down. Its an effect camerman can create by adjusting shutter speed of the still or video camera, with certain speeds of propellers.

At least Gerard can tell the difference…. The props feathered… other prop is in fine pitch.

A friend is setting up a shop for engine repair and is looking for spares and tooling for Gnome engines. As this is not my cup of tea, I’m hoping some of the fine folks on the forum may be able to suggest some ideas.

Any ideas would be sincerely appreciated.

There is no recent thread for this on this site, and since it’s an active procurement project, I thought I’d restart a discussion around Canada’s replacement of the CF-18. Contenders include the F-35; F/A-18 E/F/G; SAAB Gripen E/F, EFT Single and Two Seater, and Rafale Single and Two Seater. The F-15 SE and F-16V have been popular alternatives for some, neither have been given serious consideration to this point and are likely not contenders. l]

Not sure how the F35 would be a contender since it was dropped last year?

Im sorry, but seriously guys you dont know what a SLAT is?? and the difference between that and a LEVCON?

A slat is leading edge slotted flap. IT doesnt have to run the full length of the wing. A flap provides lift and lift only, it doesnt provide roll control unlike a levcon (which also doesnt have a slot)

I suggest some of you go back to school.

A plane is built to meet specific specifications to engineering standards and the requirements set by someone (typically a customer).
So what if it was designed using metric or imperial. That has NO BEARING ON WEIGHT.

My god this is so basic and you cant get your heads around this?

Its a UNIT OF MEASURE! If its need a hole drilled for something (as an example for making a spar lighter) they will drill the hole whatever size they can safely remove. It wont matter if its in CM or INCHES…

But when you reverse-engineer an aircraft that was built to imperial measurements – you have to ‘translate’ those measurements into metric – with all the attendant slight differences in size, skin guages etc.

    Hence the difference in weight.

    Ken

PS – And no, the Soviets did not include the bullet holes when they reverse-engineered the B-29!

What a load of rubbish…. Seriously a unit of measurement has nothing to do with weights.
My god this thread is just getting more and more rediculas.

I have a 30ft aircraft, im gonna reverse engineer it to 9.144m… OH MY GOD ITS THE SAME BLOODY LENGTH!

A unit of MEASURE has NOTHING TO DO WITH ACTUAL WEIGHTS.

It doesnt matter if a plane was built using metric or imperial measures. It has NO BEARING on the outcome of weight.
If a wing spar needs to be 4ins thick…. it wont matter ONE DIFFERENCE if its 4IN thick or 10.1cm.
If it needs to be a certain thickness it wont matter what unit of measure is used.

Unit of measurement has no bearing on weight… not even following the point of this thread at all as it the question is completely irrelevant as to weather it was built in feet and inches or meters and centimetres. An aircraft is built to specification to meet a requirement. Imperial or Metric??? Er big bloody deal…

Der Spiegel reports that a heavily injured Airbus worker who survived the crash has confirmed to investigators that the crash was caused by multiple engine failures just after takeoff:

Looking at the picture posted above, it looks like 3 fire trails along the dirt???

Do you have a link ? I heard only the French President saying that the outer shell of the FDR was found but without the mechanism (what was denied latter for obvious reasons).

Seems more and more strange… there are articles from4 days ago saying it was found. And they all say it was too badly damaged.
Now theres articles saying the search for the FDR continues.

Ok call me sceptical… but again the funny smell of something not right appears

    http://airwaysnews.com/blog/2015/03/25/germanwings-9525-crash-no-survivors-cvr-and-fdr-retrieved/

Despite early informations from The New York Times, indicating that the Flight Data Recorder (FDR) had been found in a much worse state than the CVR, BEA assures that the FDR is still missing, and that search teams have prioritized the location of the missing unit.

    http://www.nytimes.com/2015/03/26/world/europe/germanwings-airbus-crash.html?_r=1

At the crash site, a senior official working on the investigation said, workers found the casing of the plane’s other so-called black box, the flight data recorder, but the memory card containing data on the plane’s altitude, speed, location and condition was not inside, apparently having been thrown loose or destroyed by the impact.

Flight Data recorder was found… some 4 days ago.
Its apparently badly damaged. Nothing has been heard since

    TomcatVIP:

Why we need to find the FDR!

Did the Capt attempt to activate the “numeric pad” outside the cabin door?? Will this parameter be recorded in the FDR when found?? Will the timing match the activation of the toggle switch door inside the cockpit to the “lock position” ??

TomcatVIP and skyshooter bring up VERY good points.
This whole story seems (media wise) seems very “open and shut” case well before the official investigation is completed.
The release of CVR info so quickly (within what 40hrs?) is highly suspicious and there is no mention of the FDR (which the media has reported as damaged).

How can any conclusion be made with both the CVR and FDR properly analysed?

This is nothing more then trial by media and what is even more bizzare is most of this information is coming from a lawyer??

Reading a story this morning its now reported he was seeing no less then FOUR doctors now. None of whom reported his condition to the relevant authorities.

Why fly into a mountain? The time to descend surely must of played on his train of thought? There is studies done whereby most people who attempt suicide at the last second will change their mind. He had 8 to 9minutes to be thinking about this.

Wouldn’t the over-wing pylons be detrimental to the performance of the F.1’s wing?

Its pretty scarey to watch…. Looks like its stalled and dropped a wing.

It must of just missed the apartments by meters??
