Maybe we should start a thread on bizzare weapons installations and ideas???

That model is a resin kit – should be available by end of May, early June

Meanwhile, FWIW, my scratchbuilt, 1:72 scale model of the T-50 is now finished…..

Whilst not 100% accurate – it’s as near as I can get it – given the different scale drawings currently available – and the fact that we don’t even yet have the official dimensions…..

    More here.

    Ken

    WOW…. Ken that is fantastic!
Ok I have to ask…. when looking inside the intakes can you see the engine face on your model??? hehhe 😀

Actually if i recall that was the last varient of the Scorpion.

They reduced the number of unguided rockets and installed Falcons as well in the wingtips. But certainly it was a unique installation

The R22 and R44 are marginal as it is here in Australia in hot climates….
I doubt they would be any use in the desserts of Iraq etc..

Found this gem a short while back. Clearly, ground attack was a consideration very early on for the Turkey.

I recal something about the orgianl bombcat many years ago…
I got too many old books to go through! But that is impressive.

I notice the Ligthening is civilian registered, so im guessing this is a factory aircraft. Trying to find a new market in ground attack.

And rockets inside the doors behind nose gear too??!?!?

    Like this…?

    WOW! That be the one!
Yes the picture in that old book (which i still have) always had me wondering if that was a real load or not. Talk about a bizzare weapons fit!

Oh I just noticed there is another pylon on the extreme wingtip with another rocket pod!?
Is this wingpylon a normal thing or limited to a few airframes???

The truth is that the Lightning in particular was used as a demonstrator of possible configurations of attack, and it was only a prototype EE …

The ventral pylons and missiles were simulated, it was about creating a fighter and bomber variant with advanced weaponry.

However, budget cuts and low sale abroad put paid to that variant.

One of my old books shows a drawing/ rendering of a Lightening with all the possible weapons it was/ could carry. One of the interesting ones shown is a combined fuel tank/ rocket pod (similier to the ones used on the old Mirage). But the rendering shows it as a “double” instillation on the single overwing pylon!

Anyone seen any “real” pictures of the overwing rocket pod/ fuel tank?

The Turbine version made what i thought a great appearance in Quantom of Solace! 😀

The SF260 has been around for a long time now, but its design is kinda timeless isnt it?

Looks as modern now as it did, what 30yrs ago??

    apologies, my bad. 30mm

Well technically you almost were right.
The prototype Mig-19 was armed with 23mm guns.

The location for the AA-2/ Aim-9 is always interesting.
Have seen the AIM-9 located in both inboard pylons and outboard (of the fuel tanks).
While I have only seen pictures of the Atoll loaded outboard of the fuel tank.

The Mig-19 is my 2nd fav. “russian” aircraft of the cold ware era 😀 The Mig-21 still ranks number one.

Hmmm, well I dunno about the date.. lol

But the picture looks photoshopped. Too glossy for a prototype!
And the video shows the mockup which we have all seen before.
The footage at the end of the clip is of a scale model, not a real plane.

If it has finally flown, good on them!

I cant wait for the pictures…

I don’t see any S-duct there. And I don’t think there will be any in the future. If YF-23 was perfectly happy with a radar blocker, then why not T-50?

From what I know, the concept of S-ducts was known way before T-50 was born and I suppose that Russians evaluated this approach, as well. If they have decided for a radar blocker instead, then they probably know why.

Your missing the point ands its been explianed a few times.

The pictures shown of the so-called radar blocker or whatever is not right.
It appears to be fake in some respects. This is the issue.
If you closely examin the picture you’ll see whats being said.

No one has an issue with the blocker…. We are talking about weather the pictures are genuine or not…. One picture which Kapeni posted was clearly a fake, he even admits it!

As far as i know the G models have to be destroyed due to the fact they were ex SAC bombers (something about nuclear treaties blah blah blah)

The C models is not known, but i daresay they can and will be sold as complete airframes.
