How does this thing manage to get airborne…?
With a reduced fuel load and long runway!
:p
I have seen pictures of a USAF F-111 (prototype?) with 6 pylons loaded with 6 Mk82s each in flight. Cant recall seeing one in flight with 8 plyons loaded like that though.
Anyone got any???
Thank you for your help Erlindur, i forgot i have to paste it in Paint after pressing Print Screen!
Here is it …
Getting back to the subject anyone know what the missiles are????
They kinda look like AT-3 Sagger AT missiles with nose extensions???
The APU used to exhaust through a vent in the rear of the tank also?
Would have to be the most drag creating centre store one would imagine!
Cant say I have ever read anywhere about being unable to fire its cannon though.
Air forces world wide waste millions every week… Its part of the machine.
Nothin new really…
My friend, I have been in the ADF for near on 22-years now!
I both hear and read you loud and clear (I think)!
I could tell you some stories…………………………………..
At present the ADF struggles with recruiting (and more important retention!)
And yet the ‘Brass’ keeps buying bigger, more expensive ‘bling’ big ticket items, like kids in a lolly shop.
I have been OS more times than I would like in the past 7-years.
I am tired of PM’s, Shadow opposition leaders and defence ministers flying in out of the blue in body armour, telling us what a great job we are doing!
Every time we work with the U.S or Brits, the Brass get a little more excited about what they have and what they would like us to have.
At present the ADF is committed in ‘Army heavy’ conflicts – and will be for many years to come.
Whilst the Navy track down refugees using frigates and the likes for political gain and appeasement of red necks!
How many full strength battalions do we have?
How long can 4RAR/2Cmdo/ SASR keep up the pace?
While we fight this ‘War on Terrorism’, whilst having wet dreams of ABM armed frigates and 60+ton SPH, the Pacific / Indian region is leaving us for dead in terms of conventional warfare fighting capability!
And yet we are yet to experience the true ramification of a Post-Afghanistan/Iraq War turn down of Government commitment – let alone the true effects of PTSD, which will come.Sorry but I am diverging from the prime topic
End of message – OutRegards
Pioneer
I know exactly what your saying and the frustration it causes the good personel who continually get tired of seeing the most stupid decisions made with no thought process is the ADFs biggest failing.
People leave in their droves simply because they cant stand to see it anymore. Oh and yea one of my favourite comedies is “Black Adder goes forth”
Though i think its more of a training series then comedy sometimes!!
Perhaps we need to start an ADF “union” ??? lol Wouldnt that sorta talk rufffle feathers!
😀
Pioneer,
Your scaring me with logic and sensibility !!
Just think for a minute though…. since most of the large scale procurements made by/ or on behalf of Defence seem to always waste millions of taxpayer money and take years to reach IOC….
Think how bad it is as the unit/ squardon level when it comes to buying or requesting the every day items it needs to operate….
Getting back to the Hornet…..
Spanish Hornet with 6 Pythons….

Kiwi’s turn….

We shoulda bought the A-4s back!!!!
Another angle… since it looks so good. 😀

And a bombed up F-111C…

I think Peter G was referring to this:

I think the aircraft is real, however im doubting thats where it actually landed.
Someone said it could be a firing range? The large hits on the airframe would suggest this.
The “pilot” figure is definately a dummy and perhaps was put there simply to add “points” to anyone who is able to hit him while firing at the aircraft.
“The pilots are going to parachute out” ????
Oh come on…… sounds like “********” to me.
How on earth will that be achieved?
Jumping out of a plane at high speed (above 150knots) is incredibly dangerous.
Will the door be removed prior to take-off and have all the alarms disabled?
Otherwise they have no hope in hell of opening it in flight.
Fitting of a wind deflector would be required also..
And why put the pilots lives in danger (ok where are they going to find two airline pilots with experience at jumping out of planes ay high speeds?)
The old 707 tests were done with remote controlled aircraft….
It would be easier to send messages to the autopilot via its built in datalink to control it from the ground.
Then of course is the clean up bill… 😀
OK. Compare their perfs and specs then, are we talking Close air support or aerobatic scools? (Trainer programes are alreay covered)
It’s one or the other, trainers doesn’t do better in A2G close support and certainly have a lot less punishment taking capabilities built-in, to do as well as this design they would need a total redesign too and front wheel or not flying it, i wouldn’t mind at all.
….
So where is your answer?
What training programs? I dont recall seeing any tailwheel trainers in the US NAVY/USAF inventory? Most tailwheel accidents occur on take-off and landing due to the nature of the beast…. their loss of control rates are higher then any other nosewheel first types on take-off.
Marketing wise it would hard pressed to sell a tailwheel design from the 1950s!
My opinion is that the old “Sandy” should be redesigned, re-engined with a good turboprop and equiped with modern avionics, there havent been better design since Vietnam bar the A-10.
It could be used with two crew members for FAC, and since it is a carrier-borne aircraft there would be no problem for use by all services.
Another thaught, if i was the French Defense Minister (LOL) i would propose a collaborative programe involving Dassault-Aviation and to cut the developement cost, use an existing US engine.
Then plan for procuring 120 of them for both AdA and Marine Nationale, i truely think it would be THAT good.
Er… Ok… and what NAVY or other “modern” service has tailwheel trainers?
Why again waste millions in a complete redesign of a single engine tail dragger plane when theres already turboprop trainers in service with a nosewheel at the front?
All that extra training at simple take of and landings for pilots who have probably never ridden in a tail dragger… Im sure they would appreciate that…
