A once in a lifetime polish for a grand old lady is well deserved!

Yes it will fade within a few flights….. but i still think its worth doing once in a while.

    Cheers
    Gary

Glad to have added to the confusion!

It may well be due to the cold war facts were never truely revealled perhaps?
But there certainly appears to be a few slightly different versions of what it could carry and on which model!

Could the mines be nuclear depth mines? One would assume they were…..
Odd delivery system though on a Voodoo. But stranger missions have been planned i guess.

I do recall in the Military section that pictures of the Voodoo weapons bay were posted last year sometime? In the “impressive weapons ” thread? Though i have no idea which one as there has been a few to date!

I do have a few other books which ill go through when i have time up me sleeve…. as i am now curious myself!

    With regards to weapons etc…
I have an old edition of “Modern Militay Aircraft” from 1977

    It states :

Armament: (B) three Falcon (usually AIM-4D) air to air missiles semi-submerged in underside, sometimes supplemented by two AIR-2A Genie Nuclear Rockets on fuselage pylons. (C) three 20mm M-39 cannon(provision for four with TACAN removed). (RF) none.
As built all A and C and derivatives fitted with centreline crutch for 1 MT tactical nuclear store and wing pylons for two 2000lbs (907kg) bombs, four 680lbs (310kgs) mines or other ordance….

Im assuming by “wing pylons” they mean the fuselage pylons….

Another book…. The Illustrated History of Fighters by Bill Gunstun 1981

    Has the following….

77 F-101A were armed with 4 20mm M-39 revolver cannon. In addition they could carry a 735kg (1620lbs) or 1688kg (3721lbs) nuclear weapon on the centreline. The MA-7 fire control system was fitted, together with LABS computer for the toss release of the bomb.

It wouldnt be the first time a drunk was allowed to board a commercial flight..
I wonder if the “stewards” are trained to deal with drunks in the first place?

Try going for a ride on a long haul train ! The staff seem to just keep serving highly intoxicated people more alcohol and then wonder why fights break out.

I dont understand the reason for alcohol on board a flight anyhow?
Stuck inside a small tube with a hundred other people is asking for trouble.

I also wonder how much pressure the pilot was under; the propoganda value of the concerned onlookers watching the brave pilot and sturdy aircraft of the USSR is there to see.

The Russian psyche devoted to getting the job done while accepting a high level of personal risk struck me while reading Beevors ‘Stalingrad’. Considerations for the Mother Country came first over personal sacrifice.

Um this was 1989 in Germany…. Nothing to do with the USSR or Communism.

Its hard to fathom how you can be critical of what all aviators have done since the wright brothers…. take risks and explore the boundaries of their aircraft and its capabilities and the capabilities of the pilots themselves.

Pilots all over the world still fly aircraft in and out of the most dangerous airstrips in aircraft which are totally not suited for those conditions.

Lighten up and enjoy the video….. or dont post at all if your still checking for reds under the bed!

WOW !!! Fantastic… you never cease to amaze me with these photos you keep posting!

I remember with glee a few years ago when BOB came on DVD as a “special edition” complete with a short doco featuring a young Micheal Cain as the presenter!

I always seem to feel that i was born 20 yrs too late and missed the “glory days” of aviation???

Here’s one for you: Israel is the only country I can think of to constantly act contrarily to the declarations of the UN and not get the crap bombed out of it by the US Air Force.

    😮

OMG the truth is spoken… lol.
Its a hypocritical world we live in isn’t it when we the “west” speak out about one nations “terrorist” actions yet turn a blind eye to anothers !

(I feel the knives coming out already)

75x F-35’s is all RAAF will get then, short of a massive budget increase…

If i am wrong please forgive me…

Can’t really tell from the pictures posted but there are suttle differences between the two.
I dont know what its called, but the top picture appears to be a “drawing” ? and not an actual photo.
I have seen these before in old magazines etc where these high quality drawings (based on photos i assume) have all names of the cockpit layout.
Im not sure how its done.

The bottom picture appears to be a real picture from which the top picture was made from? Hence the small differences between the two.

Sounds like good news indeed. Now if only this means we keep them for an extended period of time instead of the planned early retirement in 2015?
