Is it just me or is anyone else confused as to why pics of Indian planes are brought into the Russian perspective of the Afgan war?
Yes its true that there was a loose understanding btw the Soviets and the Pakistanis about not invading Pakistan, if any Pakistani believes that they coud have defeated the USSR, lol, sorry but just look at the equipment they had, those 32 brand new F-16s were not going to be much help vs hundreds of MiGs and the Soviet missile cruisers. the USSr was a superpower, get it!
I do not see why anyone has to bring India into this discussion, leave us alone, stop being so facinated with us!

and the chai comment was originally a Pakistni army comment in 65, bakfast in Srinagar, Lunch in blablabla, can we either get back to topic or will you guys keep on bringing India up into a russian perspective of the Afgan war, guess what guys, the russians have a different opinion about what happened! That was the whole point of this thread was it not!

The Russians did not loose the war, they ccupied the entire country within 48 hours, however the Soviet Union was falling apart and it could no longer sustain such expenses as Afgan adventures anymore, Stingers in the 80s were brand new MANPADS, note that mos Russian acs did not even have flares till 1986. The Russians had strict orders not to engage the PAF

Just to satisfy your obvious jealousy, the reason why this thread is up is because the actual contract was signed! NO more memorandum of understanding etc, its the real deal that has been sighed now!

Oh and those F-15Ks will also be equipped with the new Tiger Eyes system which should give enhanced targeting, navigation, terrain following and Infrared Search & Track (IRST) capability.

I believe tha I read that the Rafale edged out the F-15K by a factor of 1.1% in the first round of competition. This is why France is now offering the F3 tranche version of the Rafale to Singapore.

From the top of my head

-The F-15K includes the Raytheon AN/APG-63(v)1 radar
-The new avionics suite will be the Honeywell Advanced Display Core Processor.
-Two General Electric F110 turbofan engines in 29,000 lb thrust.

Note that the radar is pretty new but I do not believe that it is AESA although future upgrades should include this feature.

I have heard many of my korean friends who have told me how much they have been ripped off by this deal, the Rafale should have won this, they say.

The difference between the Indan and Chinese Phalcon story is that the US has approved the deal by saying that they have nothing against it! Also the Israelis had asked Uncle permission before negotiating with India since last time they negotiated with China for nothing, I suggest you use the Jerusalem Post’s search facility for details.

Much of the talk in the Indian media has pointed to a fighter that would replace the MiG-23BNs and also more fighters for nuclear delivery role, this would indicate that the IAf would be more interested in a Ground Following radar rather such as the Antilope rather than the other more A to A specific radars. Remember that the IAf believes in customization now, no longer will it buy what is given, see the Su-30 for details.

Either way the Pakistan airforce has chewed up everyone it has fought. Its a good achievement for a smaller country with less money then its rival India.

for once even Arthur aknoleged who started what first, I wonder why every Pakistani has to bring up India in everything they do, its just lame, so drop it, besides this thread has served its purpose.

umm no Indian pilot actually said that he was superior to anyone else, lol, we got wacked in BVR by the french for example, the IAf admitted this a lot, but at least we agree that there is no such thing as su[erior pilots just because they belong to a certain country be it India or anywhere else, catch my drift. 😀

Since the French beat us at BVR, it means that they won, however it appears that we have learnt quite a bit from this experience vs the USAF.

why the ehck does someone have to bring Pakistan into this discussion and then bring India into a Pakistani related thread, do some people here have no life!, really did India care about Pakistani opinion when it bought Su-30s, btw a signed contract is no story, get that straight.

We should probably also compare the radars of the two acs, especially when it comes to ground mapping etc.

    Antilope is good.

Besides all those MiG-29Ms etc, they are but a few alf arsed prototypes while the Mirage 2000-5 has already been produced!

Many subsystems of the MKI such as avionics etc will be installed on the MIg-29, transfer of technology will also be done, no problem!

But the MiG-29 is not well suited for a strike role, it does nt have that many hardpoints for example, has less load etc. The Mirage should have a superior ground following radar for example. I think that the RD-93 engine sale to the PAf is a big reason why the Government of India is even considerin a huge MiG purchase. But mind you, the IAF will have to pay the price of today for yesterday’s aircraft when t comes to the Mirage unless the IAF can get many Rafale subsystems installed. The MiG-29 is one cheap aircraft though, I also believe that the MiG-29Ms have a slightly longer range than the Mirage 2000.
