Simply because the Bison has a smaller Kopyo radar and is much less manouverable than the J-10, less TWR, shorter range, etc etc, use of composites ……

I am a big fan of the J-10, its look is quite catching and its specs do in deed match up with the Su-30 series in PLAAF service.

India has been operating with aircraft carriers since INS Vikrant entered service more than 30 years ago!
And although the NLCA may see life on the ADS, I do not see why they would put 6 LCAs on the Gorshkov along with 16 MiG-29Ks, that is not a pride issue, the IN is more concearned with getting as many aircraft in the air as possible in the shortest amount of time and with the least amount of headache.

Aster30 is also quite a bundle of rupees, maybe one system per battlegroup, so about two ships in total for the Gorshkov and ADS battlegroups.

Srbin, it is not tha unusual if the Chinese were to buy the FC-1 as well, although we have not heard much except for exports so far, think about politics here, two different design bureaus, the Government must surely satisfy both of them. Although I agree that the one engined J-10 could replace all the light weight and medium weight fighters, politics has a funny way in this world and we may see the FC-1 in PLAAF colours but surely not 1000.

Ah, its good that they have incoorporated an IRST and if the sd-10 is being sold, I do believe that the pL-12 is another missile as well unless it is a longer ranged sd-10?

Before the last thread ended with insults, I had asked about the flight certification process of any Chinese ac?
How man flight hours does a fighter need to complete in order to be certified for airworthness?

For example the LCA needs 2000 hours of testing

    thank you

It would be great to have a flight sim with non american acs for a change. I know that they have had sims with Su-27s, MiG-29s and Su-25s but I want to see Mirages, Rafales, the new Typhoon, FC-1, LCA, J-10 etc.

The Americans kept the FBW stuff after 98 nuclear tests and the whole damn thing has to be rewritten, hence the almost 2 year delay.

Why would you want to have 2 different types of acs on the carrier, it does not make sense as to why they would have 16 MiGs and about another 6 NLCAs, I think that the LCA is for the new ADS ships, the maintainance would create a suboptimal solution on a medium sized carrier.

Do they plan to equip one of the future escort ships, maybe the Bangalore class ships with a longer ranged theater air defence missile in the same league as the S-300s?

Also I thought that the Gorshkov could take on more than 20 MiGs, do they plan to put some Harriers on bord in stead and won’t that cause a bit of a maintainance headache?

I would not be surprised if the Russians ask India if they can have a close eye to the Phalcon in the future, those russians are very crafty fellows.:)

    It should simply be 250 J-xx, 500 J-10s, 500Su-30s and 300J-7As

Why have the FC-1 when the J-10 is present

Don’t try to twist words around Dragon, noone is saying that there may be certain elements in the future that may show some thought in stealthyness, but the FC-1 will not be in the LO categoty, not by a long shot, ignoring debate is dumb and serves nothing, you might as well stay away from forums.

If we are to use 1US=43Rs

Each Tejas costs about 23M US, not bad at all.

Is there a timescale of when these 40 will come and does that mean that the LCA has completed enough flights that the IAF is now satisfied that the plane testing will be a success and that the capabilities shown already are satisfactory.

I think that the MKi should have a larger RCS than the FC-1, so the FC-1 does have something over here although it becomes quite irrelevant in battle.

Any fighter that can launch a BVR missile is dangerous, its the people who claim that the FC-1 is in the LO category that annoy me.

Its true that you would want to get in range where your missile is at its most effective, the MKI could simply have radar off, the Phalcon would guide it, once at optimal range, radar goes on and missile flies away, the enemy plane when evading a missile will have to pull off some hard turns, beaming manouvers etc, he may have to jetisson his big loads, tis not easy to evade missiles these days, the MKI will be the dominant fighter of the sub continent, add datalinking, Phalcons and most importantly, which airforce has had more BVR experience and has had more exercises with foreign countries, that would be the IAF and yes of course a IAF vs PAF conflict will end in considerable losses on both sides. The IAf will loose many strike acs that had to get low and meet the MANPADS, Crotales etc. The FC-1 will be effective operating in its own territory, no doubt about that.
