Ha – Beautiful shots, many thanks for the close-up view.
I was leaving work on Madingley Road, Cambridge, this afternoon at about 16:00ish and heard the unmistakable sound of a war-bird engine and sure enough, it was followed by an unmistakable shape just low enough that I could see the stripes on the wings.
I was pretty sure it was Snafu so your pictures have confirmed it.
I stopped in the carpark to watch the free air display way out in the distance over Duxford before heading for home. My first airborne warbird spot of the year!
That’s one beautiful aircraft 😀

Thanks for the pics – super. 😀
Nice pictures. Spring is in the air. Let the airshow season begin!!
I second that!!!
Cheers for the replies chaps.
That’s a surprise because it came from a pretty knowledgeable source, at least my father had no reason to doubt its svalidity. It’s very possible that the allen bolts and Hammerite were later additions, around the time it was sectioned, but if nobody’s seen anything like it then I guess it’s not a Lanc part!
All the best….
Cheers for running it – my partner and I really enjoyed the day and relished the opportunity to get close to such a beautifully preserved aircraft.
I’ve not got round to it yet but will send a CD with a few of my shots into the Aviation Centre as a thank you.
I also had a go at compressing the dynamic range of a B&W image to give it that war-time look – a bit more work needed I think, but if you squint a little it could almost be a 1940’s photo

Thanks again!
The full engine start-up video is now available on Youtube:

Cheers…
I also took a couple of HD videos during while the engines were running. One’s still uploading (it’s about 2Gb!) but the shorter one is here.
Apologies about the lighting, it’s a bit dark and moody I’m afraid, but you get the idea!!
Cheers for the kind comments folks – Jane is a very easy subject to photograph – good from every angle!!
The reenactors were very serious about their art and really added to the photos, the poor ladies and gentleman were kind enough to stand stock still in the cold night air for several minutes so that we could get our pictures.
Some of the exposures that I took were upwards of 20 seconds, and when you’re taking HDR sets you have to take three shots so it’s often quite difficult to get the pictures you need.
Here are a few more of Jane:

Hello all,
We are planning on hosting a photographers event on the 17th March 2012 (evening) at the Lincolnshire Aviation Heritage Centre, East Kirkby.
We want to try and make this event the best it can be and are looking for your ideas on what shot etc you would like available and which vehicles/aircraft you would like to see available.
But also, who would be interested in attending as we would need enough people to attend to make the event financially viable (especially if we ran the Lanc).
Hi there,
I’d be very interested in attending this – I’ll check the website as I can see that this is a fairly old post.
If you could get the old girl to, say about 5,000 ft, and fly me along side as the sun is going down, I reckon I might pay double 😉
Cheers for the heads-up: I’ve been wanting to visit Just Jane for yonks and this would be the ideal excuse.
[EDIT] Just booked the tickets. See you there!
Haha – I love this forum – you tell me the type, the specific aircraft and its location.
Sorry it was so easy 😉
The only problem is that ebay are wont to remove listings that state cash only, as it is a policy that Paypal has to be accepted for all transactions!
True, but I’ve never had a problem with saying cash on collection only
If you say you are willing to accept offers, then you also have to include the ‘Make Offer’ button on your listing.
Again, you have to word it in a way that suggests that you’ll still sell it through eBay, hence the ‘Buy It Now’ wording – certainly don’t say ‘just turn up and pay cash’ – you arrange that off-line!
Free listing weekends save you 10p if you start at the nominal 99p – with a high value, high interest item, there is no point in starting any higher. Be brave!
Haha – that’s the exciting way of doing it!!! If you do it the other way (i.e. start it at a price you’d be willing to accept) then it tells prospectve ‘Buy It Now’ buyers what sort of price you’re after – particularly useful if you’re testing the market with a higher price than you think might be achievable.
The aim of my instructions is to get a free classified advert but you’re right with what you say – if you really do intend to sell via an auction (esp. an item that’s V&A – Valuable and Attractive) start it low and watch it go!
No offence intended 🙂
Great find – A bit of eBay advice for you, for what it’s worth (I’ve used this technique to sell high-value items and avoid the ludicrously-high fees):
Wait for a free-listing weekend then start a 10-day auction at the lowest price you’d consider accepting for the item (or if you think you can play the market, start it at a higher price in case someone with deep pockets decides they *have* to buy it). Use the free picture that eBay allows and then host all the other pictures (take lots of high-resolution ones) online at somewhere like Photobucket, where you can insert thumbnails (or full-sized photos) for free.
Accept only cash on collection: state in the auction that you do not want PayPal payment. Also state that you welcome people to inspect the item in person and would be willing to entertain a ‘Buy It Now’ offer.
Then wait to see what happens – the best case scenario is that someone who really wants it comes to take a look at it and then offers you the price you’re after and just pays you cash on the spot. You then cancel the auction and thank eBay for the free advertising!!
Even at the worst case, if you leave the auction to run it’ll cost you £40 max when it sells.
That method has worked for me with several cars and other high-value items like bicycles and watches.
Good luck.
Dan Griffith’s display in the MK IX at Rougham was the best Spitfire display I have seen all of this year. Speed, low, tight turns, was epic!!!!!!!!!!! 😀
Totally agree – if I close my eyes I can still see it in my mind’s eye. What a treat 🙂
I’ve just signed the petition and forwarded it to all interested parties that I can think of.
Here are a few images from the August air show this summer:

Superb Spitfire Mk. IX air display!
It’ll be quite hard to hide once I get it home so does anybody have any suggestions as to what I should tell the wife?:o
Tell her that it came with Issue 1 at the introductory price of £1.99 and that you’re intending to build the whole model….!
