Does anyone know why with the current Typhoon order being at 72, the potential Rafale order is for 36?
rafale potential was quoted by saudies themself at 96 in 2004, and the typhoon potential was quoted from dreams of british medias, no one knows about and everybody talks about!
My understanding of the 8 aircraft reduction is that the funds are needed to productionize the RBE2 AESA which is currently still a kind of prototype though its flying in the Rafale since 2003.
AESa antenna will be esier to plug on Rafale that is far away more advanced electronicly than EF2000!
and all AESA in the world are prototype, and always are being develloped constantly! with the second phase of devloppement since 2 years and an envelloppe of 90 millions euros, i don’t see any european equal this days, and for years!

range of radar? at semi active acquisition, you should be right to put “range” as the main quality, but since ESA detection its the last, especially when you are comparing a mecanic out of date technology with a very modern one, what you need with a mec one to have better range ‘long range” is the easiest, upping power supply to mutlipliate the output of waves, its risky because everyone knows you are there, a ESA bet on his sensitivity to grow range, not on growing waves emmissions, ESA emitt larger band of frequencies and analise back as much aswell, making detection more discreet, when a eurofighter will detect a Rafale, it will be on only ferry range allies operations, because at war times, the rafale will knows before waves coming back to eurofighter where to fox3 the flying elephant with more accurate TVC missiles than the foe!

stealth fighters are dreams, obsolescent, US fighters are so big and leave to aerodynamics so much today , stealth is a dead meat, detection technologies are developping each mounths so quickly, not the stealth fighters, in 6 years stealth fighters of this size will be not more “invisible” if one day they ever was!

never compare the eurofighter who use “mirage” like idea of delta angle with Rafale who use advanced ideas combining close canards, Lex and different angle and delta shape…
On the basis of both wing loading, and thrust loading, the Typhoon has the full package. Definitely at the top of my list from a pure agility point of view. The only machine that could consistently out-perform the Typhoon in a close engagement would be the F-22 (which also has thrust vectoring engines).
