Stow Maries is an airfield complete with buildings that should be on the Heritage Preservation List. How do we go about it?
No mention in the paperwork, will have to wait for physical inspection.

Will look at the paperwork tomorrow. Physical will have to wait until we pull it out of the container.
Can anybody shed any light on the field modification for the second seat?

There is a DVD called Whispering Death based on 30 & 31 Squadron RAAF produced by Shane West and Chris Doig. The duration is 90 min. I saw it on sale at Morabbin and possibly the War Memorial at Canberra, Australia.
And any sign of a large crate with either P40B, P47G, SPITFIRE MK XVIII OR TF-51 been sighted in any ports around the country. i’m sure you will all agree, we are in for one hell of a summer.
It will be one hell of a summer at TFC! To get things going the “large crates” containg the Spitfire & P-47 will be arriving early April.
There is a file in the National Archives at Kew, possibly in Air27, that gives the full details on the colour scheme of MM5701. I transcribed it 30 years ago, will try to find.
TFC’s machine still requires a considerable amount of work including the overhaul of the engine. We will endeavour to have it assembled in its uncovered state for, yes you have guessed, Flying Legends.
Maybe fuji was refering to the early days, 1968 ish, when they came into service at Colerne, Fairford, & Changi with 48 Sqdn. When the hatches were removed the story was that they had been fitted so that the troop commander could watch his men jump out of the back!
The modification was to fit a plain hatch instead of the dome.
Interesting to hear the story has turned full circle.
Well done the moderators! We live in the land of free speech which many are trying to curtail. If this is to contentious for some please post it on the RAF forum where the mature majority would enjoy a good debate. http://www.activeboard.com/forum.spark?forumID=46291
I agree with Charley there are some points of interest concealed within. Having served in the RAF and seen the procurement process in action over a period of fifty years the same mistakes continue to be made over and over again. Yes, it does involve historic aircraft. Dig deep and read about the Valiant, Bulldog, Shackleton, AEW Nimrod etc. Two that really spring to mind and really relevant to this forum are the Mosquito and the Me 262
You could have been talking about, P-39, Hawk 75 and a certain Bristol type thing, just to mention a few! Always good to have a volunteer.
You mean G-SPIT?
The Red Arrows were based at Kemble, when was that?
If it helps I worked on the Repair and Salvage Flight at RAF Abingdon and was involved in the spares recovery and scrapping of the RB211 test bed at Kemble. Also scrapped the two seat Lightning at RAF Colerne Museum and took it to the fire dump at Kemble.
I recall other detachments from “Crash & Smash” to Kemble but the other aircraft do not come to mind at the moment.
Looks like Allison V3420.
Great character, great raconteur. Fond memories of a night stop in Harare on the way to pick up Plane Sailing’s Cat. Dizzy as always the centre of attention.
He lived a full life, keep on chasing Dizzy!
Sigh of a Merlin! You need the “Growl of a Griffon” at full chat, then you are talking.
