That’s sad news. Was lucky enough to get his autograph at Duxford a few years ago.
Another of our true heroes gone … RIP.

Elvish has left the building
Yes,I’ve seen the rings for sale, but none made of bronze and scripted inside as well as out….and the ring does look very old.
I had a look at Wikipedia’s page on Tolkein and they say he based his Elvish language on Finnish and Welsh….anyone here speak the lingo?
Here’s another pic,not very good quality as I took it using a magnifying glass over the camera lens. It’s the same ‘word’ repeated along the ring.

Here’s a photo of the ring in question,I found it under a bush while looking for a ball lost by my kids!
It may well be rose gold,it certainly looks old, doesn’t look like something out of a fortnightly partwork! I must admit it does bear a strong resemblence to the ‘Lord Of The Rings’ style of writing.
It was interesting to read that Tolkien was an expert in early English….could well have influenced him.

Mossie drop tank
Here’s a Hunsdon-based Mosquito drop tank converted into a windmill,as modelled by Denis.I won’t say where it is…..you never know who’s watching 😉

Nothing to do with the RAF I know, but The Beatles filmed some scenes of ‘Magical Mystery Tour’ at West Malling in 1967.
The ‘pretty little policemen in a row’ from ‘I Am The Walrus’ were seen on top of what I assume were blast pens.Does anyone know if they survived the obliteration of the airfield?
West Malling may have been revisited in 1978 by The Rutles for ‘Tragical History Tour’ 😀
Unbelievable! 😡
I hope the bar stewards ruptured themselves. It took about four of us to lift the Hunsdon prop off a pallet,so they must have used lifting gear to move it from its plinth.
Some of us put a lot of time and effort into building memorials such as this,to remember those who fought and died for our freedom, and to see them pillaged by thieving gits makes the blood boil.
Hope it turns up soon.
Glad to be of assistance Kelly 🙂
