Thanks Paul. 😉
That’s great news, another Hurricane is always welcome! Pardon my ignorance, but who’s Peter Vacher? It’s a name I’m not familiar with.
Here we go again……..
Buccaneer = COMPLEX
Straight from the horse’s mouth http://forum.keypublishing.co.uk/showthread.php?p=465125#post465125
Sorry Mike I rarely visit the other forums here so wouldn’t have seen this thread! 😉
The Buccaneer stands a good chance and Hawker Hunter Aviation are busy working towards this aim. The Phantom – well nobodys tried yet!
So presumably the Buccaneer comes under the same “intermediate” catagory as the Sea Vixen then?
Personally I don’t think there’s much chance of seeing a civvy Phantom in UK skies again.
The Vulcan is being supported by the design authourity Marshalls of Cambridge on behalf of Bae, hence the difference. The Lightning will not fly in the UK even if it does get the backing of the design authourity – the CAA as I understand it dont consider the design ‘safe’. The fact that they have said that means it would need someone with balls the size of beach balls to sign the paperwork and take responsibilty for it.
From what I gather there were one or two prangs with the Lightning in it’s service days, so maybe the CAA are right to stand their ground on this one. Interesting how they managed to convince the CAA over the Sea Vixen though!
You guys in Britain aren’t even allowed to have rifles, and you ask why you’re not allowed to have a fighter jet? :diablo:
As always, thank you for your useful contribution.
All are classified as ‘complex’ aircraft and as a result need the backing of the ‘design authority’.
As it’s looking like we’ll now see a Vulcan fly in UK skies once more, it will be interesting to see about other aircraft of her generation.
The CAA originally stated that the Vulcan would never fly again either, citing the “Complex” catagory as one of the reasons. When or if this aircraft flies, surely it weakens the CAA’s “Complex aircraft” argument against prospective operators of Lightnings and Buccaneers. If they were to obtain product support from BAE Systems, could it lead to legal arguments with the CAA?
Absolutely wonderful pictures, especially at a time when we face losing our last airworthy B25 to the USA. 🙁
it’s rather chaotic in there, but it really is a fabulous collection.
Chaotic is sometimes good. It’s like sifting through an old garden shed, you just never know what you’ll come across!
Great pics Gary, thanks for posting them.
The retired Sqn standards are displayed in the Main College building at RAFC Cranwell. When sqns are reformed their colours move to the new Station.
I stand corrected! 😀
I think I’m correct is saying that the retired Squadron standards are returned to Bently Priory, however the silverware I’m not so sure about.
Stunning! 😀 Love that shot of the fighters over Coningsby.
What a great place, thanks for posting! 😉
One of the daily rags had a bit about AMRAAMs and F.3s disagreeing with each other some months ago – “yet another defence procurement scandal” etc. etc.
That sounds about right! 😉
Thank chaps, yes the F3’s were landing back after QRA duty, as you can see they are fully loaded with live weapons.
I noticed the ASRAAM’s but what gives with the Skyflash missiles? What’s happened to those nice new AMRAAM’s the F3 was supposed to get, or have they disappeared in the latest round of defence cuts?
