Grrrrr…. Ok I feel better now! 😀 They were great airshows at RAF Bentw@ters, hopefully Mildenhall will be a goer for May.
You’ll find a list of airworthy UK Mustangs here.
Oh dear, MODERATOR!!!!! What the hell is wrong with the word Ben****ers? 😡
Neither of my parents were into aviation, so I was always told “it will be too noisy, you would’nt like it”, translation: We can’t be a*sed to take you as we don’t share your enthusiasm!
I finally went to my first airshow at Mildenhall in 1986 with a mate from school and his parents. A couple of years later I went to the Ben****ers open house, and one or two of the shows at Lakenheath as well as Alconbury. Not much left of the airshow scene in East Anglia now, just good memories! 😉
I believe that F/Sgt Alkemade did appear in the Guiness Book of Records at one point for this.
Indeed he did, I remember reading it as a kid and was amazed then too. Funny this thread should spring up now as I was only thinking about this incident last week and wondered who it was!
Me in Spitfire Vb BM597 at DX today. I’d never sat in a Spitfire before, so it was a very special moment. I think my grin says it all! 😀
Very nice Neil! Love the evening shots of the Lanc.
Mark Hanna was a great ambassador for the warbird movement in the UK and around the world. It doesn’t matter which Duxford show you go to, it’s guaranteed that Mark will be mentioned at some point. I will always remember him for his vibrant Hawker Hunter displays at Duxford.
Mark, you are very much missed.
🙁
Yep, we were contacted by the assistant producer for the programme regarding the availability of two-seat Spitfires in the UK for use in the programme.
I always thought the the C141 was a nice looking jet. We were over at Lakenheath on July 28th and saw this AFRC machine from Wright Patterson AFB taxi out and take off.
I say: Start to forget! That was 64 (sixty-four) years ago!And the Empire is only a distant memory.
As already mentioned, those who forget the past will make the same errors through pure ignorance. Although it’s important not to dwell on the past, it is shear arrogance to suggest we should just forget! Our children know very little of WWII despite it being in living memory, yet they know all about Vikings and Romans, have you ever met a Roman Centurian? I know I have not, however I have met many of those who fought during WWII.
A recent survey showed that even many adults thought that rememberence day was to celebrate the passing of Diana Princess of Wales!!! If Mr Blair is really serious about education he will ensure that history lessons teach something that’s relevant!
Thanks guys and gals, another year older and hopefully wiser!
Hey that brings back memories, I was there at the time! Nice to be reminded of the good ole days. Thanks.
Happy Birthday mate! 😀
