    Great site Dave!

Just a small thing from one webby to another, you need to change the title of your homepage. It comes up as “Homepage” when you save to your faves. Just change the title to “Wings Over Cambridge” and it’ll save people having to change the text before saving to their favourites.

I haven’t had time to go through the site properly yet but it looks very informative and well laid out. I like the old posters and shoulder flashes etc, nice touch.

If you would like to exchange links with http://www.ukwarbirds.net just send me a PM.

Good luck with the new site.

    Cheers

    Furies? Yes please! πŸ˜€

Those at legends this year will know that John Bradshaw brought his Fury in for the weekend. In theory that machine could be in the photo above as it was an Iraqi AF machine built in 1953 S/N 37539. Apparently these aircraft were known as “Baghdad Furies”. It would be great if one of those slides turned out to be this actual aircraft.

Thanks for sharing these pictures, they are something special.

    Cheers

I remember Tornado, but played it on a mate’s computer as I never had one. The first serious PC sim I owned was DID’s EF2000 Evolution in DOS. What a great sim that was, shame the last version “Eurofighter Typoon” (DID/Rage) didn’t live up to the earlier versions!

    Hi Neil,

The Connie doesn’t look that bad, I’ve seen far worse! πŸ˜€ There does seem to be some movement in the props, I’ve seen pictures where you wonder if the aircraft has multiple engine failure!

The high shutter speed could be an issue as it will be mainly used to photograph warbirds for our website. It’s great that you can use the camera in full automatic, or fully manual modes, though as you rightly mention the focus is problematic on a fast moving aircraft. I noticed that you can change the aperture settings while in sport mode, handy for DX where the sun is always an issue.

We are looking at heading down to either Woodchurch or Shuttleworth this weekend, we still can’t make our mind’s up! It’ll be a good testing ground as we only got the camera on Tuesday. Lakenheath was a bit on the quiet side so not such a great day for testing the new kit. It was nice to see an AFRES C-141 from Wright Patterson AFB taxi out and take off though, I suppose they are bordering on historic nowadays!

    Cheers

I’d agree with Moggy. I would recommend reading “Fighter Pilot” by Paul Richey as he served in France in 1939/40 with No. 1 Squadron RAF. He mentions regular trips over Germany at that time, to intercept recce flights etc. “Fighter Pilot” has recently been republished and I would highly recommend to read it as it’s a great insight to the Battle of France.

Excerpt from the RAF’s timeline at http://www.raf.mod.uk/history/line1939.html

3 Sep 1939 – At 11 am Britain declares war on Germany to be followed at 5pm by France. Australia and New Zealand also declare war on Germany. A Bristol Blenheim of No. 139 Sqn, Wyton, carries out the RAF’s first operational sortie of the war – photographic reconnaissance of the German naval base of Wilhelmshaven.

I have always had mixed feelings about the project, and I can see Kev’s point, however it remains to be seen how the aircraft will be permitted to be flown. The last Vulcan displays saw her virtually stood on her tail at take off and thrown around like a fighter, which although impressive, nowadays it could lead to questions of safety.

Sadly we now live in an age of 24hr media coverage, and they will always try to stretch out the story to fill the time. Should anything happen to this aircraft the effects would be devastating to the warbird community, especially given the amount of public money that’s gone into restoring her. With this in mind, I’m sure much thought will go into how best to fly her when the time comes.

Well done Kev for being honest and for sharing your own viewpoint! πŸ˜‰

Bringing things slightly more up to date, I’m still waiting for a injection molded 1-72 Nimrod MR-2.

There was a tread on the new built FW planes which told us that they aren’t allowed by the CAA to fly in the UK for safety reasons. So I don’t think they can participate at the 2005 legends show. πŸ™

The posibilities with this kind of development are limitless and it sounds good but aircraft being unflyable is going to make it hard to sell surely ? apart from to the diehards that is.

Worked ok for Airport Tycoon. πŸ˜€
