Looks like this is a non-starter. The change of aircraft in mid-February failed to materialise. The schedule then showed the 777 operating from the 30th March, however the whole summer schedule is now back to being operated by the old Airbus A310’s.

Sorry, I have to agree with the other people commenting on your post. It seems like you had a bad holiday experience, however instead of putting it down to just that, you feel the need to try and get some of your money back by using whatever means possible.

You mention that your holiday was awful in general. It doesn’t sound like this was down to the holiday company as I’m sure that you would have been claiming from them for this too, or is it that you have and didn’t received any compensation and so you’re trying a different slant?

I too had a five hour delay, also with Thomas Cook from Antalya last year. This was down to two drunken yobs on the inbound flight, requiring the aircraft to return to the terminal at Manchester in order to off-load them and their baggage. The time this took, followed by the flight having to obtain a new slot meant that I too had the awful wait in a hot airport. Unfortunately because the delay wasn’t six hours I didn’t get anything and saw very few Thomas Cook staff at all. All I got was a letter thrust into my hand at the gate confirming the flight delay!

Had I been like you, I would have spent time trying to source the yobs and take them to court to gain a few bob for my awful ordeal. I do however live in the real world and take these things as they are – unavoidable in modern day life.

Good luck with the compensation claim.

Great pictures. Enter Air seem to have been doing lots of the Santa flights this year. One of their aircraft has been operating (and parked) up at LBA.

In the picture of the KLM Embraer, is that the nose cone of Thunderbird 3 behind the hangar?:diablo:

Hi folks. I think that the thing you’ve got to remember here is that these are designed to be feeder flights and nothing else. Virgin America along with Virgin Australia are technically stand alone airlines with very little connection to Virgin Atlantic apart from the name.

The new venture is designed to a) provide alternative competition to BA on domestic routes (not a bad thing), and b) provide connecting traffic from the regions to Virgin’s own long haul services.

Up until the BA purchase, BMI offered many other carriers (including Virgin) seats on their domestic flights to connect with the carriers own services out of London. Following the purchase the availability of these seats dried up as BA stopped offering these to ‘non’ One-World carriers. They therefore gained some form of monopoly on feeder traffic. This has taken away business from these carriers (including Virgin, along with SQ, AC and UA) and so I wouldn’t be surprised if the new ‘VS’ domestic flights didn’t gain some new code-share flight codes. It would also help to ensure that VS were filling the services too, plus with Delta purchasing 49% of Virgin recently you can bet you bottom dollar that they’ll have a DL code-share before long.

I beleive the lease on the aircraft will be minimum 3 years, they will be painted into the full Virgin scheme and all crew will be in Virgin uniform. Whether they do give the interior a spruce up or not is another matter, but no one has said that they aren’t. The amount of time you will spend on them however is minimal. The full ‘Virgin’ experience is what you will get after you get to London.

On the point of a separate cabin, BMI didn’t make a business class cabin work on domestic flights so why would Virgin risk it? In the by-gone era people would happily pay an extra £100.00 for a bit of extra leg room on a 30 minute flight, sitting on the other side of a curtain with a cream scone. How many people would ‘or could’ justify that now in this economic climate? They’ve got more chance of making it work by offering low-fares, plus they’ll be strong competition from BA.

Qantas have been struggling to make money on their international routes for years now. To try and turn this around, they’re cancelling their joint venture on the Kangaroo routes with British Airways and aligning themselves with Emirates instead. The single daily services to Sydney and Melbourne will operate at similar timings but operate via Dubai instead of Singapore.

Qantas did operate a twice daily services to both Sydney and Melbourne for a time with lunchtime departures from Heathrow. Certainly one of the services routed via Hong Kong (Sydney I recall). This allowed the aircraft a shorter time on the ground in London, however if the services aren’t profitable there is no point in operating them. Whilst Qantas are still struggling on the London services the evening departures are still the most attractive due to the onward connections offered to other cities in Australia and New Zealand. The inbound flights from Australia are also times to connect from most detinations too.

British Airways also cancelled their direct service to Melbourne a few years ago and have scaled back their Sydney service to a single daily flight, the original second flight now terminating in Bangkok and having 8 hours on the ground there. British Airways are also switching their Sydney service to a 777-300 at the beginning of the summer schedule.

It will be interesting to see what BA do once their joint business agreement with Qantas ends at the end of March, however with so many carriers offering connections to Australia now will new services be commercially viable?

I am guessing this is a 757 (LS251) sunday afternoon summer 2012 service.
But is it a winglet or normal one ?

    Tommy

The sunday afternoon service is scheduled to be a 757 service but not listed to be operated by winglet aircraft

Apparently BMI baby has found a buyer who will be retaining the company with no lay offs.
No company has been mentioned yet, but could be a new entrant. Of Existing Lo-Co’s wonder who would go for it?

According to the press association it is a ‘UK mystery buyer’. My bet would be Jet2. They seem to be expanding with extra 737-300 and -800 series and so the fleet would fit and would give them extra capacity at EMA and BFS and a new base in BHX.

A beautiful aircraft. I flew back from Turkey aboard ‘OA’ in May and named ‘Eric Morcambe’. The aircraft was in a similar exterior condition but the interior was fine.

    CAA ATOL?

    Hi

Its been a while since I last posted on here but have regularly read the various posts.

Jetxtraman. Well done for the proposed start up of the new carrier and I do wish you every success with the venture. I did however see the following article in the Travel Weekly this week and they gave a slightly different reason for the ATOL licence being withdrawn…

“A partner of travel group CTT, JetXtra plans to operate flights from Humberside airport to Majorca and Malaga for three months from June. Seats went on sale in the second week of January, with the carrier saying all sales would be protected under the CTT Atol.

The airline claimed it halted sales following a threat of legal action by regional carrier Jet2. However, the CAA confirmed it had acted to prevent the sale of unlicensed holidays.

A CAA spokesman said: “CTT sought permission to trade with JetXtra.com. We have not yet approved that and until we do it cannot sell holidays. We would not allow a company to sell seats it does not have a licence for.” The spokesman confirmed: “This has nothing to do with Jet2.”

CTT holds a licence to carry just 620 passengers in the year to September and only 150 this summer, when JetXtra hopes to carry 9,000 passengers. The CAA previously confirmed to Travel Weekly that JetXtra would only be allowed to offer the number of seats for which CTT is licensed unless it approved an extension.”

Is there a DC-3 based at Liverpool?

    James

Funnily enough whilst driving into Liverpool City Centre at 11:10 on Sunday I saw a DC3 with a silver/grey colourscheme with the white and black bands on the wings. It was flying very low over the houses before banking sharply towards the city centre. As it flew over the centre it dropped what I assume were poppy petals. To see that old bird with the trail of red behind was truly memorable.

I know it will never happen, but imagine it being opened up as part of the viewing area. People would pay a fortune for a couple of hours up there!

[QUOTE=black_star;1127301]747’s land at London city. No really, they do. Not on a regular basis, but they do. Not mayne people know that.[/QUO

ARE YOU REALLY SURE THIS IS CORRECT!

From an Airport that is only (currently) capable of accepting regional jets, I find it hardly likely that a 747 could land at LCY. If they did accept one it raises an number of questions!

1 where are they going to park something that big?

2 if they got in in how are they going to get it out apart from on the back of a truck?

I have nbever heard of anything bigger than an A319 even attempting to get into London City!

A picture of course would confirm this but could find any when I google’d it.

Wasn’t this type of engine studied years ago. I once remember seeing a mock version of what was to become the 777 of Farnborough years ago (I’m showing my age now) with these types of engine situated on the rear (in the same position of an MD80).

This looks similar in forward design to a Canadair aircraft!

I have left from the remote stands a couple of times now. The gate inside the terminal from what I remember is numbered 300. It is accessed from a set of stairs on the opposite side of the departure area from the other gates. Once downstairs there are four exits to waiting buses A, B, C & D. The buses leave from the rear of the terminal and drive underneath and onwards to the aircraft.
